Abstract

Urinary tract infection is a type of infection that occurs in one or all organs in the urinary system and is generally caused by bacterial infections, one of which is Klebsiella pneumonia. Treatment of urinary tract infections is carried out by administering antibiotics, however, this method actually increases the incidence of antibiotic resistance. Therefore, alternative treatments are needed to replace the antibiotics used for urinary tract infections. This is a meta-analysis study that aims to obtain information about alternative treatments for urinary tract infections using herbal medicines and their mechanisms. This research begins with a search for relevant references, then selecting the articles that are truly relevant with the topic, and extracting the data. The data used was secondary data extracted from the references, then statistically tested with Ancova t-test and effect size calculation. The extraction results showed that the usage of herbal plant extracts was able to provide an inhibitory zone on the growth of Klebsiella pneumonia, which indicates that herbal plant extracts are able to provide antipathogenic effects for Klebsiella pneumonia. The Ancova t-test results showed a sig. value is 0.000 which indicates that there is a clear and significant effect of the herbal plants extract as an anti-uropathogen of Klebsiella pneumonia. The calculation of effect size also showed a value is 0.882 which means that the herbal plants used as an anti-uropathogen of Klebsiella pneumonia has a very large effect.

Abstract

The use of antibiotic growth promoters has been banned in various countries because of the risk of causing bacterial resistance to drugs and antibiotic residues, so phytobiotics are used as an alternative. One of the many commercial products known to have the potential to be used as a phytobiotic is the capsicum group. The characteristic of Capsicum is the high content of the capsaicin compound in it which is famous for its pharmacological abilities including increasing livestock production. This research is a meta-analysis research conducted to determine the effect of using capsaicin on poultry digestion. The data used in this research is secondary data extracted from previously collected journals. The data collected was then subjected to a statistical difference test to determine the differences between each treatment. The results of the analysis showed that in general the use of capsaicin supplementation increased digestive enzyme activity, feed intake, and chicken weight compared to treatment without the use of capsaicin. The statistical test results also showed that there were differences in the results of each treatment as indicated by a p value of 0.011 < 0.05 and there was a real and significant influence from the use of capsaicin on digestive assessment parameters with a p value of 0.011 < 0.05. These results show that capsaicin can be used as an alternative antibiotic for poultry to increase digestive enzyme activity, feed digestibility, increase feed intake, and increase bird body weight.

Abstract

Indonesia has high biodiversity, making it the country with the second largest biodiversity in the world. To preserve this wealth, the government has established conservation areas, including the Gunung Halimun National Park in West Java, which is the largest tropical rainforest on the island of Java with unique flora and fauna. This research was carried out in the Citalahab River, part of the national park, to identify the fish species present. Sampling used a purposive sampling method, and fish species were identified based on data from gbif.org, fishbase.org, as well as the latest literature. The results of the research show that there are seven species of fish in the Cikaniki area, namely Puntius sp. (wader fish), Channa sp. (snakehead fish), Xiphophorus sp. (swordtail fish), Glyptothorax sp. (kekhel fish), Gambusia sp. (cere fish), Rasbora sp. (spray fish), and Monopterus sp. (field eel). Each species is described based on its morphological characters and habitat. These results emphasize the importance of conserving natural river habitats, because species diversity plays an important role in maintaining ecosystem stability and ecological balance.
