Abstract

When designing a lesson plan, the first steps involve setting learning objectives, outlining instructional steps, and creating assessments. However, in practice, teachers often focus on covering all material without revisiting which content will be taught. This study aims to provide deeper insights into lesson planning using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework. This research is a literature review that describes UbD or Backward Design principles. It draws on various sources such as articles, journals, and relevant documents. The study focuses on UbD-based learning. The findings indicate that UbD can be implemented by identifying desired outcomes, assessment results, and lesson plans. UbD-based learning has proven effective in classroom settings. The benefits of UbD include enhancing students' ability to apply knowledge, empathize, think critically, and develop self-awareness. Within the UbD framework, teachers act as instructional designers, analyzing basic competencies and determining achievement indicators based on those competencies' characteristics.

Abstract

Warga Desa Sumber, Magelang, yang mayoritas bekerja sebagai petani dan pekebun, masih membuang air cucian beras tanpa dimanfaatkan. Padahal, air cucian beras berpotensi menjadi bahan dasar pupuk organik cair yang dapat meningkatkan kesuburan tanah dan hasil panen. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan memberikan sosialisasi dan pelatihan pembuatan pupuk JAKABA (Jadi Kaya Bakteri) sebagai upaya pemanfaatan limbah air cucian beras. Metode kegiatan meliputi penyuluhan dan praktik langsung pembuatan pupuk JAKABA, dengan peserta sebanyak 35 orang di Taman Doa Ibu Maria Tuk Ing Katentreman, Desa Sumber, Magelang. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test untuk menilai peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta. Hasil pre-test menunjukkan hanya 4 peserta mengetahui manfaat pupuk organik cair, 2 mengetahui cara pembuatannya, dan 2 telah memanfaatkannya dalam pertanian. Setelah pelatihan, hasil post-test menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada ketiga aspek tersebut. Peserta juga menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dan berkomitmen untuk menerapkan hasil pelatihan di lahan pertanian mereka. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kesadaran masyarakat dalam mengelola limbah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk organik cair yang bermanfaat dan ramah lingkungan.
