Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is the third largest country that carries out female circumcision. As many as 51.2% of girls aged 0-11 years have undergone female circumcision. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) or female circumcision is a dangerous traditional practice that still occurs in Indonesia, which has caused pros and cons among the community even though, based on scientific studies, female circumcision has been proven to have no health benefits. Female circumcision has even been banned by law and opposed by international health organizations. Objective: The study aims to identify factors influencing female circumcision in Indonesia, focusing on the Social Determinant and Health theory. Method: This study is a systematic review that collects several studies according to the PRISMA guidelines. Using relevant keywords, studies were obtained from various databases, such as Garuda, Google Scholar, and Semantic Scholar. Studies were collected from June to July 2024. Result: From 2.254 articles found, ten articles were selected for further analysis. Factors such as maternal age, maternal education, knowledge, culture/tradition, beliefs, family support, and sources of information also influence the practice of circumcision in female children. Conclusion: Female circumcision is a dangerous traditional practice that is still carried out today due to the culture and beliefs of the local community, which are still strong and believe that female circumcision must be carried out on their daughters.

Abstract

Dengan demikian, pendekatan pemberdayaan partisipatif melalui penguatan kapasitas peer educator terbukti menjadi strategi efektif dalam mendukung upaya promotif dan preventif kesehatan di komunitas lokal.ABSTRACTAdolescent health issues in local communities represent a strategic concern that requires special attention, particularly due to the tendency toward risky behaviors that can negatively affect their quality of life and future. Assessment results revealed a low level of implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors, as well as a tendency to engage in risky behaviors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and premarital sexual activity. This community engagement program aims to empower local communities by strengthening the capacity of peer educators as agents of change through a Participatory Empowerment approach. The program was implemented in several stages, including situation analysis, advocacy, peer educator training, and the establishment of adolescent health posts (posyandu remaja). In addition, a youth communication forum was formed as a sustainable platform for disseminating health information. The results showed an increase in adolescents’ understanding of health issues, the formation of an active communication forum, and improved access to health information and services. Thus, the participatory empowerment approach through strengthening peer educator capacity has proven to be an effective strategy in supporting health promotion and prevention efforts in local communities.

Abstract

The adoption of digital health portals represents a major shift toward patient-centered care. These portals empower patients by improving access to health information and facilitating communication with providers. This review synthesizes evidence on how portals influence empowerment, with emphasis on digital literacy and health outcomes. Findings show that patients with strong digital skills actively use portals, achieve better chronic disease management, and report higher satisfaction. Quantitative evidence includes a 0.5% reduction in HbA1c and improved blood pressure regulation among users. However, vulnerable populations face persistent barriers such as limited literacy, low socioeconomic status, and inadequate infrastructure. Systemic obstacles like interoperability issues and provider workload also limit portal effectiveness. Policy strategies should focus on digital literacy education, universal internet access, and strong privacy protections to ensure equitable benefits. Future research must adopt longitudinal and inclusive approaches to strengthen evidence and guide equitable implementation

Abstract

The Minimum Initial Service Package Readiness Assessment (MRA) was a comprehensive tool used to evaluate a region’s preparedness in delivering priority reproductive health services during emergencies, as outlined in the MISP. In Indonesia, the MRA had only been implemented in four provinces, including Central Java. This study was the first research conducted in Magelang Regency. It aimed to describe the implementation of the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for reproductive health during the Mount Merapi eruption disaster in Magelang Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving 10 informants from government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and evacuation site managers. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document review, with data validity ensured through triangulation of techniques and data sources. The data analysis included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicated that MISP implementation in Magelang Regency during the Mount Merapi eruption disaster remained suboptimal, particularly due to the absence of a dedicated reproductive health sub-cluster. Despite good coordination among government agencies, awareness and understanding of MISP among policymakers remained limited. Village midwives played a crucial role in health service provision at evacuation sites. However, socio-cultural constructs that perceived reproductive health issues during disasters as sensitive posed significant challenges.
