Abstract

The 2024 MXGP, to be held at the Selaparang Circuit in Mataram City, provides a comprehensive overview of the political and economic impacts of development and tourism. Due to its better infrastructure, Selaparang was chosen as the new location, instead of the Samota Circuit, which required close coordination between the local government and the event organizers. Although there were administrative challenges to overcome, such as tax arrears, these were resolved through fruitful dialogue, highlighting the importance of teamwork in overcoming challenges. The event will increase hotel occupancy, attract more tourists, and provide a major economic boost to the area. Local businesses will benefit from higher tourism-related revenues as well as increased participation from micro, small, and medium enterprises. Visitors will also drive economic diversity and job development, which will help industries such as transportation, hospitality, and retail. By promoting environmentally friendly projects and environmentally conscious tourism, the 2024 MXGP is well positioned to act as a catalyst for sustainable infrastructure development. In addition, the local government’s reputation has demonstrated its ability to host major international meetings. Lombok will ultimately reap long-term social and economic benefits from MXGP 2024, which will strengthen the island as a leading international sports tourism destination.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the Mataram City General Hospital—a referral facility situated in a socio-economically vulnerable, tourism-dependent area of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Service quality is assessed across three dimensions: (1) administrative service quality, (2) accessibility of health services, and (3) clinical service quality, framed against the challenges of achieving SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 1 (No Poverty), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Using a descriptive qualitative design, we conducted interviews, observations, and document analysis, and coded the data in NVivo 12 Plus. Findings indicate that administrative processes have improved in clarity, speed, and ease of registration; however, responsiveness and lengthy waiting times persist. Digital platforms have enhanced access, yet geographical barriers and a digital divide continue to constrain equity. Overall clinical quality is satisfactory but limited by insufficient empathy and suboptimal communication from health workers. The study contributes empirically by showing how systemic constraints—uneven resource allocation, workforce shortages, and infrastructure deficits—undermine UHC objectives in vulnerable, tourism-reliant settings. Policy implications include the need for area-based planning, stronger inter-agency coordination, and context-sensitive innovation to deliver more equitable and inclusive services across West Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

The principle of meritocracy is an important foundation for professional, accountable, and integrity-based governance. However, in the Indonesian context, the implementation of this principle still faces various challenges, both structurally, culturally, and institutionally. Although the bureaucratic reform agenda has been rolled out, the integration of meritocracy into public policy has not been optimal. Therefore, a systematic study is needed to evaluate the practice of meritocracy in order to identify achievements, obstacles, and opportunities for strengthening merit-based policies. This study aims to evaluate the practice of meritocracy in public policy in Indonesia through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach combined with bibliometric and psychometric analysis. This study reviews various research results from 2015-2024 obtained from the Scopus and Dimensions databases. Selection was based on publication quality, topic relevance, and full-text availability in Indonesian and English. The study results show a thematic focus on bureaucratic reform, public human resource management, and performance-based governance. Bibliometric mapping shows that meritocracy research is still scattered and has not been optimally integrated across sectors. Psychometric approaches are also rarely used, especially in developing instruments for measuring perceptions and practices of merit at the organizational and individual levels. The study's conclusions emphasize the importance of strengthening meritocracy through a multidimensional evaluative approach. Psychometric instruments are needed that are contextual and sensitive to the culture of public organizations in Indonesia. Furthermore, cross-disciplinary collaboration, the use of information technology, and consistent institutional reform are prerequisites for realizing effective meritocratic policies. These findings are expected to form the basis for formulating more adaptive and justice-oriented public policies and improving public service performance.
