Abstract

Gout is a metabolic disease characterized by the buildup of uric acid that causes pain in the joints, very often found in the upper legs, ankles and middle legs. Gout is a disease called gout which is associated with a genetic effect on purine metabolism and can cause inflammation due to deposits of uric acid crystals in the joints of the fingers.This type of research is descriptive, that is, it provides an overview of uric acid levels in the elderly who seek treatment at the Stabat Public Health Center, Langkat Regency and is carried out from Oktober to November 2022. The population is all elderly patients who seek treatment at the Stabat Health Center, and the sample of this study was 60 people. The method of data collection is by using primary data obtained directly from the results of measurements of uric acid levels and then presented in tabular form to determine normal and abnormal conditions.The results showed that from a sample of 60 elderly people, uric acid levels increased by 40  people (67 %), while normal glucose levels were 20 people (33 %) and to improve the health of the elderly it is necessary to avoid consuming excessive food. containing high uric acid, perform regular physical activity and check blood uric acid levels regularly.

Abstract

Coffee consumption has become a part of people's lifestyles, especially among men. The main component of coffee is caffeine, which has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system. However, excessive consumption can lead to kidney function disorders, which can be identified through increased serum creatinine levels. This study aims to describe creatinine levels in male coffee addicts in Dusun IV, Saentis Village, Percut Sei Tuan District. This research employs a descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 25 male coffee addicts had their serum creatinine levels measured using the enzymatic method with the Indiko Plus Analyzer. The results showed that the average creatinine level was 1.72 g/dL, with the lowest at 0.77 g/dL and the highest at 2.01 mg/dL. A total of 28% of respondents had high creatinine levels, while 72% were within the normal range. Respondents aged ≥35 years tended to have higher creatinine levels compared to those under 35 years old. Coffee consumption of ≥5 cups per day was associated with increased creatinine levels. This study indicates that excessive coffee consumption may pose a risk to kidney health.

Abstract

Urea and creatinine serve as key indicators in the evaluation of kidney function. Measurement of urea and creatinine levels can be performed using either serum or plasma. This study aims to compare the results of urea and creatinine level examinations obtained from serum and plasma in patients with kidney failure at RSU Indah Bagan Batu. The research method used is descriptive observational with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 22 kidney failure patients who underwent urea and creatinine level examinations using an enzymatic method with an automatic analyzer. The results showed that the average urea level in serum was 186.7 mg/dL, while in plasma, it was 184.9 mg/dL, with a p-value of 0.917 (p 0.05), indicating no significant difference. Similarly, the average creatinine level in serum was 14.17 mg/dL, while in plasma, it was 14.15 mg/dL, with a p-value of 0.988 (p 0.05). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that urea and creatinine level examinations can be conducted using either serum or plasma without significant differences in the results.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with abundant tropical fruit production; therefore, fruit processing into preserved products such as candied fruit is widely carried out to extend shelf life. One form of processed fruit product is candied fruit packaged in cans. However, canned packaging has the potential to cause heavy metal migration into food products. This study aimed to determine the level of lead (Pb) contamination in canned candied rambutan, peach, and lychee. This research employed a quantitative descriptive approach with analysis using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. The samples consisted of canned candied rambutan, peach, and lychee obtained from supermarkets in the Kutai Kartanegara area. The samples were digested through an ashing process at 500°C and subsequently analyzed using AAS at a wavelength of 324.8 nm. The results showed that all samples contained Pb at relatively low levels. The Pb concentration in candied rambutan ranged from 0.0014–0.0015 mg/kg, in candied peach was 0.0015 mg/kg, and in candied lychee ranged from 0.0016–0.0017 mg/kg. These values were below the maximum permissible limit for heavy metal contamination established by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), which is 0.1 mg/kg. Therefore, the analyzed canned candied fruit products are considered safe for consumption based on the Pb contamination parameter.
