Abstract

Cocoa production of farmers in Gunungsari area has started to decline, both in quantity and quality of the product. This condition results in a decrease in farmers' income, often even causing losses due to production costs higher than product sales. This community service activity was carried out to diffuse the organic farming system and cocoa processing technology. The adoption of these innovations by the farmers became a target of the project. The diffusion of organic farming was conducted through oral and audiovisual communication, field demonstrations, and direct farming assistance. The result showed that the lack of information regarding cultivation technologies and agricultural institutions has led cocoa farming less economical. For this reason, agricultural communication should be further improved through the employment of a variety of communication media and delivery methods. Therefore, the knowledge, attitudes, and enterprise skills of cocoa farmers are able to increase continuously.

Abstract

Soybean is a vital source of vegetable protein and used in food and animal feed industries. However, soybean production and land area in Indonesia have been declining due to the influx of cheap imported soybeans, which lowers local prices and discourages farmers from cultivating soybeans. This research aims to identify the factors influencing the motivations and characteristics of soybean farmers in Leuwidamar District, Lebak, Banten. Using a survey method and random sampling, 72 out of 251 farmers were selected. The results show that the farmers are mostly in their productive age, with limited land, low farming experience, small capital, basic education, and many dependents. Key motivating factors include age, farming experience, land tenure, income, availability of agricultural inputs, and extension services. Farmers value hands-on experience over formal education, and both farmers with few and many dependents have similar motivations to cultivate soybeans, driven by government programs, income generation, skill improvement, and external encouragement from relatives, neighbors, and agricultural extension workers.

Abstract

Empowerment is an approach to enhance the capabilities or power of one party to the weaker or less powerful party. Kawasan Rumah Pangan Lestari (KRPL) is a program that utilizes environmentally friendly yards, aimed at fulfilling food and nutritional needs, as well as increasing income to improve community welfare. Juhut Village has implemented KRPL since 2014 and has the potential for further development. This study aims to analyze the empowerment of the Bina Mandiri Women Farmers Group (KWT) through KRPL. The method used is descriptive qualitative with purposive sampling in Juhut Village, Karangtanjung District, Pandeglang, Banten. The data used includes primary and secondary data, with a census method applied to 25 members of the KWT Bina Mandiri. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and literature studies. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and through tabulation. The results of the study indicate a significant impact on the increase in knowledge among KWT Bina Mandiri members regarding farming efforts, yard utilization, and fulfilling food needs through the KRPL program.
