Abstract

The emergence of a minimalist lifestyle in Indonesia has become increasingly popular in recent years. This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the construction of a minimalist lifestyle and how to build an image as an SCBD worker in video content uploaded by the tiktok account @budakcorporate. The use of qualitative methods with a netnographic approach was carried out in July-December 2022. The minimalist lifestyle is basically a trend that aims to suppress consumerism. However, the content uploaded by the Tiktok account @budakcorporate shows that a minimalist lifestyle still involves consumerism depending on what the individual or perpetrator emphasizes. The implication is that there is a shift in the meaning of the minimalist lifestyle definition itself, from a concept of simplicity to a lifestyle that leans towards consumerist values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the self-presentation of members of the Anime Lovers Kebumen community in the social environment. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, determining informants using purposive sampling techniques. In its data collection, this study used primary data obtained through in-depth interviews and participatory observations with community members, and secondary data obtained from additional informants and other external sources. The data validity technique in this study uses source triangulation. Based on the social community's view of the stigma of wibu, especially members of the ALK community still tend to be negative in almost all aspects, such as appearance and personality that are seen as strange. This makes members of the ALK community choose to close themselves or as much as possible present themselves as normal people in the social environment, so they use the ALK community as a forum to present themselves as a wibu. When ALK members are in a front stage position or in a social environment, they present themselves as their profession without showing their authority to conform to the norms that apply in the social environment.

Abstract

This study analyzes the communication strategy of SochFactCheck, a Pakistani fact-checking organization, during the 2024 General Elections. It employs Strategic Communication Theory and Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA) to examine 52 disinformation cases, focusing on how SochFactCheck structured, disseminated, and evaluated counter-narratives. Disinformation tactics included deepfakes, AI-generated political resignations, and gendered attacks primarily targeting PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) leaders. Through a four-phase strategic model situational analysis, message development, message delivery, and evaluation SochFactCheck deployed a hybrid communication system integrating online platforms and offline journalist workshops. The results demonstrate SochFactCheck’s evolution from a reactive fact-checking outlet to a strategic actor capable of shaping public resilience and digital literacy. This study underscores the role of independent media in countering AI-driven political manipulation in fragile democracies

Abstract

This research aims to understand the portrayal of female characters in horror films, which often depict women as weak, oppressed, or only able to fight back after becoming ghosts. Such portrayals reinforce the stereotype that women serve merely as victims or decorative elements in stories. Therefore, it brings a refreshing change when a horror film features female characters who are heroic or capable of resistance without turning into supernatural beings. The reason behind this research is the researcher’s awareness that the controversy surrounding the film Thaghut tends to overlook its positive aspects, particularly the portrayal of it’s female character and the film’s original intention as a medium of religious preaching (dakwah). This study uses a qualitative method with Umberto Eco’s semiotic approach to interpret the significance of meaning within scenes and evaluate whether the depiction or labeling of the main female character aligns with the researcher's expectations. Based on interviews with person who involved in the film’s production, it was revealed that the screenwriter of Thaghut, Lele Laila, often presents female characters in heroic roles and male characters as antagonists. However, the controversy stemmed from the film’s untimely release. Thus, this study highlights the positive elements found in Thaghut, especially in it’s portrayal of women.
