Abstract

A common psychiatric problem called attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterised by impulsivity resulting in behavioural problems and a very short attention span and is associated with childhood. This study evaluates the management of behaviour in the management of uncooperative children with ADHD symptoms using various behaviour modification techniques. A PubMed and Google Scholar publication search was conducted and 5 articles published 2014-2024 were reviewed. It was found that combined therapy, behavioural therapy and pharmacotherapy, can help dental management in children with ADHD symp-ptoms. It was concluded that dentists should be knowledgeable about behaviour management, including tell-show-do, distrac-tion, modelling, brain function training, and medications prescribed for children, as well as side effects and possible drug inter-actions with sedatives included in the dental treatment protocol.

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of obesity continues to increase, and society needs to pay attention to it. One effective treatment that is also included in the pillars of obesity management is bariatric surgery. Apart from the many benefits of bariatric surgery, there are side effects that need to be considered, one of which is eating disorders. This study aims to determine the prevalence of eating disorders in post-bariatric surgery patients in Indonesia, especially at Sumber Waras Hospital, Jakarta. Methods. This research is a descriptive study with cross-sectional methods in post-bariatric surgery patients with a minimum BMI of 30 kg/m2. Results. A total of 54 patients after bariatric surgery at Sumber Waras Hospital, Jakarta filled out a questionnaire to assess tendencies towards eating disorders, namely EDE-Q 6.0 (Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire) after 6 months of undergoing bariatric surgery. The results showed that 17 respondents (31.48%) experienced eating disorder tendencies. Conclusion. Eating disorders are one of the side effects of bariatric surgery that needs to be considered. Further research is still needed on this matter, considering the small number of samples in this study. Research on related topics is expected to expand its reach so might obtain a larger sample size.

Abstract

Background: Tooth fracture is a condition of missing or lost fragments of a complete tooth. Tooth fracture usually occurs simultaneously with another oral injury. Objective: This case report discussed the management of Ellis class II fractures on an immature permanent central incisor of a patient who reported to Jenderal Achmad Yani University (Unjani) Dental Hospital. Case: An 11-year-old girl revealed a broken upper left tooth, sensitive to cold drinks that interfered with her appearance one year ago. The patient had a good general condition, no abnormalities during an extraoral examination, and a history of pain on the lower back tooth since a year ago. Case Management: Management of Ellis class II fracture in young permanent central incisor was conducted by using a class IV composite resin restoration. Conclusion: The management of Ellis class II fracture should be conducted holistically and systematically with subjective, intraoral, extraoral, and adjunctive examinations which should be performed correctly and considering the child’s psychology.

Abstract

Averrhoa bilimbi can be used as a natural tooth-bleaching ingredient because it can increase the brightness of tooth colour. In bleaching treatments, there are times when it is found that the patient's teeth have composite restorations. This study aims to determine the effect of Averrhoa bilimbi extract gel as a natural dental bleaching agent on the roughness of nanohybrid composites. The research method used 17 nanohybrid composite samples of 5 x 2 mm. Samples will be measured for surface roughness before treatment, and then samples will be applied with 50% Averrhoa bilimbi extract gel for 2 hours every day for up to 14 days and surface roughness test after treatment. The data were processed with t-test statistics; the statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.0001 (p<0.05), which means that the roughness value before and after 50% Averrhoa bilimbi extract gel treatment is a significant difference. It can be concluded that 50% of the Averrhoa bilimbi extract gel affects the roughness of nanohybrid composites. The average roughness value of the nanohybrid composite after 50% Averrhoa bilimbi extract gel treatment is 0.16 μm, which is still below the critical limit of roughness, so even though it is significant, 50% Averrhoa bilimbi extract gel can still be used safely as a natural tooth bleaching agent. Abstract

Abstract

Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP) represents one of the rarest forms of soft tissue tumors, with an annual occurrence estimated at only 0.008 to 0.045 cases per 100,000 individuals. This rare, slow-growing but locally aggressive skin sarcoma often presents with subtle clinical features, leading to delayed diagnosis and management, particularly in resource-limited settings. In this report, we describe a case of DFSP that presented to a rural healthcare facility with delayed presentation. A 37-year-old woman was referred to the general surgery clinic with an enlarging lump in the calf of her left leg that had been present for the past 20 years. The lump had gradually increased in size and was initially painless. One month prior to hospitalization, the lesion became frequently painful, bled intermittently, and discharged pus. A wide excisional biopsy was performed, and the specimen was sent for histopathological analysis. The conclusion of the histopathological analysis was consistent with DFSP. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of DFSP in resource-limited settings, where limited access to specialized diagnostic services, lack of awareness among primary healthcare providers, and financial constraints contribute to diagnostic delays. A long-standing lesion remained indolent before progressing to symptomatic disease, emphasizing the need for increased clinical vigilance in rural healthcare facilities. Early recognition and appropriate management are essential to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Non-syndromic cleft lip and palate (NS CLP) and non-syndromic cleft palate (NS CP) are abnormalities arising from palate and lip fusion failure, which begins in the sixth week of pregnancy and is caused by multifactorial (genetic and environmental) factors. Methionine Synthase (MTR) rs1805087 A2756G and Methylenetetrahydrofolate Dehydrogenase, Cyclohydrolase, and Formyltetrahydrofolate Synthetase 1 (MTHFD1) rs2236225 G1958A are two genes suspected of being risk factors for NS CLP and NS CP, but they have not been studied in the Indonesian population. Purpose: This study aims to determine the risk factors for NS CLP and NS CP disorders in the Indonesian Deutero-Malay population. Methods: The results were obtained by analyzing the MTR rs1805087 A2756G (67 control and 35 NS CLP patients) and MTHFD1 rs2236225 G1958A (52 control and 49 NS CP patients) polymorphisms using the Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLPs) method. Results: This study found no polymorphism among all MTR rs1805087 A2756G participants. As for the MTHFD1 rs2236225 G1958A gene, there were no significant results found, but the A mutant allele (OR=0.613, p=0.115) and the AA mutant homozygote genotype (OR=0.521, p=1.000) appear to be protective factors. Conclusion: This study concluded that MTR rs1805087 A2756G and MTHFD1 rs2236225 G1958A are not risk factors for NS CLP and NS CP in the Indonesian Deutero-Malay population.
