Abstract

This scholarly investigation aims to elucidate and evaluate the manifestations of social Sufism, employing the framework of Social Representation Theory (SRT) in conjunction with the Quranic context. The analysis centers on Surah Al-Ma'idah:2, which is essential for comprehending the fundamental tenets of faith and ethical considerations in Islamic discourse. Adopting a qualitative descriptive research methodology, the inquiry undertakes an empirical investigation in Malang Regency, which is distinguished for its significant contribution to the social stuff of East Java, which is characterized by a profound cultural and traditional heritage. Findings indicate that the practices of social Sufism in Malang Regency are profoundly influenced by the exegetical understanding of Quranic Surah Al-Ma'idah:2. This research enriches the existing literature on Social Sufism, mainly through the interpretive lens of the al-Qur'an, providing an in-depth examination of the variables that contribute to character development and social identity within the frameworks of social Sufism studies. Moreover, the outcomes illuminate the quintessence of reality, revealing how individual behaviors are shaped by experiences aimed at attaining happiness and their ramifications on the social attributes of the Madurese-Santri community.

Abstract

The growing role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in community-based economic development highlights the need for models that integrate entrepreneurship with spiritual values. This study aims to develop a santripreneur model at Sunan Drajat Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren), Lamongan. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, direct observation, and document analysis across the pesantren’s business units. The findings identify a structured four-stage trajectory—startup, stabilization, growth and development, and real business synergy—that reflects the transformation of santri into Islamic entrepreneurs. This model integrates Islamic spiritual values with modern business practices, emphasizing tawḥīd, ethical conduct, performance discipline, and stakeholder collaboration. It not only cultivates an entrepreneurial mindset rooted in Shariah principles but also promotes institutional sustainability through structured training and alumni engagement. Conceptually, the model addresses a gap in the Islamic entrepreneurship literature. Practically, it offers a replicable framework for other pesantren seeking a sustainable, Shariah-compliant economic ecosystem.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the importance of preserving marine ecosystems from the perspective of maqāsid al-sharÄ«’ah as an effort to realize a good food product supply chain, and to maintain and realize halal and tayyib (clean and pure) food products. The research method approach used in this article is a literature study or literature review. Sources are collected from books and various research articles on pollution of the marine environment and its consequences for human health that have been carried out by previous researchers, then studied from the perspective of maqāsid al-sharÄ«’ah. The findings in this study show that the problem of damage to marine ecosystems due to pollution is a big problem that must be resolved, because of the impact caused not only on the environment but also on human health problems as a result of consuming marine biota exposed to waste, especially heavy metals. While preserving the ecosystem is part of maqāsid al-sharÄ«’ah. Therefore, in realizing halal products that are tayyib, serious attention is needed on supply chain sources. The results of this research can contribute to thinking and decision-making regarding the importance of preserving the environment in realizing a good source of food supply.

Abstract

This study examines the limited scholarly attention given to the role of Bu Nyai as legislators in the Tapal Kuda region through Simone de Beauvoir’s existential feminism. It aims to analyze the roles, positions, and domestic relations of Bu Nyai within the legislative sphere in Tapal Kuda, East Java. A qualitative case study approach was conducted in the Tapal Kuda region. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed thematically using data triangulation to obtain an in-depth understanding of Bu Nyai’s roles in the legislature. The findings show that Bu Nyai's involvement reflects a significant transformation of pesantren women from the domestic sphere into the public political arena. Figures such as Neng Dana, Ninik, and Neng Ufa utilize religious social capital, education, and organizational networks to strengthen their political positions. From Simone de Beauvoir’s perspective, they experience a process of becoming that negotiates between immanence and transcendence, thereby challenging patriarchal structures. In addition to legislative, oversight, and budgeting functions, they also advocate for women’s issues, education, health, and community-based economic empowerment. This demonstrates the strengthening of autonomous political subjectivities among pesantren women in Indonesia’s public sphere. In conclusion, Bu Nyai represents a transformation toward more independent and empowered political actors capable of transcending traditional patriarchal boundaries in Tapal Kuda. This study contributes to existential feminist scholarship and supports more inclusive and gender-responsive public policy in Indonesia.
