Abstract

This research aims to analyze the obstacles that are factors in the lack of profit sharing financing at BMT UGT Nusantara. This research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to examine the process of determining financing schemes, implementing profit sharing financing and identifying the causes of the lack of profit sharing financing at BMT UGT Nusantara. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with informants such as financial managers, business managers, branch heads, account officers and members of BMT UGT Nusantara. Apart from that, field observations and analysis of financing documents were also carried out to obtain a comprehensive picture.  Data analysis was carried out using three analytical steps suggested by Miles and Huberman (2007), namely data reduction, data exposure and conclusion drawing or verification. The results of this research indicate that determining the financing scheme is the internal authority of BMT UGT Nusantara with the knowledge and approval of members. Financing with a profit sharing scheme is only used for companies that are already established, while small businesses use non-profit sharing financing. The lack of financing with a profit sharing scheme is due to several obstacles such as high risk, quality of human resources, asymmetric information, moral hazard, minimal understanding of members and member preferences.

Abstract

The growing role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in community-based economic development highlights the need for models that integrate entrepreneurship with spiritual values. This study aims to develop a santripreneur model at Sunan Drajat Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren), Lamongan. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, direct observation, and document analysis across the pesantren’s business units. The findings identify a structured four-stage trajectory—startup, stabilization, growth and development, and real business synergy—that reflects the transformation of santri into Islamic entrepreneurs. This model integrates Islamic spiritual values with modern business practices, emphasizing tawḥīd, ethical conduct, performance discipline, and stakeholder collaboration. It not only cultivates an entrepreneurial mindset rooted in Shariah principles but also promotes institutional sustainability through structured training and alumni engagement. Conceptually, the model addresses a gap in the Islamic entrepreneurship literature. Practically, it offers a replicable framework for other pesantren seeking a sustainable, Shariah-compliant economic ecosystem.

Abstract

Amid growing concern over the decline of character education among Indonesia’s youth, particularly in relation to student discipline, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have emerged as vital institutions for cultivating moral integrity through continuous and holistic educational practices. This study investigates the development of student discipline through the internalization of Islamic educational values at the Wali Songo Islamic Boarding School in Ngabar Ponorogo. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with educators and students, document analysis, and field notes. The study identifies three primary strategies contributing to the internalization process: role modeling by educators, habituation via structured daily routines, and firm yet constructive rule enforcement. The internalization of discipline unfolds through the phases of value transformation, transaction, and trans-internalization, embedding the core Islamic principles of iman (faith), sharia (Islamic law), and akhlaq (morality) into students’ behavior. Discipline, as developed in this context, transcends mere obedience and is manifested as intrinsic moral awareness that shapes students’ conduct within and beyond the school environment. Although challenges persist, particularly among senior students, sustained mentoring and institutional consistency significantly mitigate disciplinary issues. The findings suggest that formal educational institutions may benefit from adopting key elements of the pesantren model, particularly the integration of moral exemplars, routine-based learning, and value-oriented discipline, to enhance character formation in contemporary schooling.
