Abstract

Abstract

Geography learning requires appropriate media to concretize abstract concepts, such as the distribution of flora and fauna in Indonesia, which varies significantly across the archipelago. Conventional maps commonly used in schools often lack the flexibility and interactivity needed to present geospatial information effectively and dynamically. Therefore, this study aims to develop an interactive map-based learning media to enhance students’ understanding of the distribution of Indonesian flora and fauna in Senior High School geography subjects. The study applies a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The interactive map was designed using base maps derived from thematic data, combined with digital or satellite imagery, to produce a more comprehensive and engaging geospatial visualization. Features of the media include layers of flora and fauna distribution, geographic characteristics, interactive videos, quizzes, learning materials, and lesson plans. The media is also supported by clear icons, appropriate cartographic symbols, and color gradations based on cartographic principles to improve readability and spatial interpretation. The developed media was tested on students at SMAN 1 Penebel, Tabanan Regency, Bali. Validation results from content, language, and media experts indicated a very high level of validity. In addition, practicality assessments by teachers and students showed that the media is easy to use and effective in classroom settings. Pre-test and post-test comparisons revealed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, with an average post-test score increase of 28.75 points. These results suggest that interactive map media can significantly enhance the effectiveness of geography learning.

Abstract

The results of research conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Mengwi and SMA Negeri 1 Kuta Utara showed differences in student learning activities in geography learning between rural and urban areas in Badung Regency. This study aims to compare students' learning activities by using comparative quantitative research methods. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive techniques and hypothesis testing. Based on the analysis, it was found that the average student learning activity in urban areas was higher than that in rural areas. The larger standard deviation in urban areas indicates a wider variety of learning activities than in rural areas. The distribution of learning activity categories also shows that more students in urban areas fall into the “high” and “very high” categories compared to students in rural areas. Hypothesis testing results show significant differences between students' learning activities in the two regions. This finding is an important basis in formulating more effective and contextualized learning strategies according to the characteristics of each region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze vegetation density in Tabanan Regency spatially using the NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) method derived from Landsat 8 satellite imagery. The analysis process was carried out by processing band 4 (Red) and band 5 (NIR) to generate NDVI values, which were then classified into six vegetation density categories: non-vegetated, very sparse, sparse, moderate, dense, and very dense. The results showed that vegetation in the very dense category dominates most areas, particularly in highland sub-districts such as Pupuan, Penebel, and Selemadeg Barat. Conversely, lowland areas such as Kediri, Tabanan, and Marga showed lower vegetation density due to intensive human activities, such as settlements and agriculture. This study emphasizes the importance of protecting densely vegetated areas as conservation zones and highlights the need for reforestation and proper spatial planning efforts to maintain ecosystem balance and ensure environmental sustainability in Tabanan Regency.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Banyuwangi Regency. Environmental and land conditions in this district are undergoing significant changes along with population growth and human activities. These changes include land use change from natural vegetation to settlements, industry and infrastructure. This research is a descriptive investigation that focuses on the processing results of Landsat 8 images that have been acquired and processed in the form of land surface temperature maps and vegetation density maps in the form of NDVI and supported by geological data and manifestations in the Banyuwangi Regency area. This research aims to (1) Analyze vegetation density in the form of NDVI from the processing of Landsat 8 satellite images in the Banyuwangi Regency area, and (2) Analyze land surface temperature in the form of a land surface temperature map from the processing of Landsat 8 satellite images in the Banyuwangi Regency area. To answer the objectives, investigative research was conducted. Data were collected using survey and direct measurement methods. The results show that vegetation density in Banyuwangi Regency is dominated by vegetation density with the non-vegetated class being the NDVI class which has the largest area reaching 124,014.04 hectares. Land surface temperature in Banyuwangi Regency from Landsat 8 image extraction obtained the highest temperature in the LST 35-<40 class reaching 15,752.07 hectares and the lowest temperature in the LST 10-15 class reaching 43,228.96 hectares.

Abstract

Dolphin ecotourism in Lovina, North Bali, poses ecological risks due to uncontrolled human interactions and limited community awareness. To address these challenges, a culturally grounded yet environmentally conscious framework is essential. This study introduces the Tri Mandala concept, rooted in the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which emphasizes harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality. The research employs qualitative analysis, including stakeholder interviews and field observations, to assess cultural and environmental synergies. The Tri Mandala organizes ecotourism activities into three spatial zones:  utama (sacred), madya (intermediate), and nista mandala (profane), each serving distinct functions. A minimum dolphin observation distance of 50 meters is recommended to reduce ecological disruption. This zoning model promotes balanced interactions among stakeholders, fostering sustainability and cultural integrity. Future adaptations should incorporate ecological, spatial metrics and cross-cultural testing to enhance relevance. This approach highlights the need for context-sensitive methodologies in ecotourism planning, balancing local values with scalable conservation strategies.
