Abstract

This research aims to explore the typology, causal factors, and elements of differences (Ikhtilaf) that emerge among Qur'anic exegetes in interpreting the Qur'an. This study employs a library research approach in its methodology. The research findings reveal that the diversity of understanding and interpretation of the Qur'an is an unavoidable reality. Furthermore, when viewed from the perspective of the exegetes' understanding of the text or verse pronunciation, Ikhtilaf in interpretation can be classified into two categories: Ikhtilaf tanawwu' and Ikhtilaf tadhodh. This study also identifies several key factors contributing to the emergence of Ikhtilaf, including: variations in pronoun interpretation, different views on abrogation (naskh mansukh), diversity in Qur'anic readings (qiro'ah), and disparities in understanding the context of distant and near pronunciations.

Abstract

This research examines the discourse of Quranic interpretation regarding social relations influenced by socio-historical dynamics, epistemological biases, as well as patriarchy, sectarianism, and elitism. The objectives of this article are: (1) to trace the evolution of the construction of social relations discourse in the tradition of Islamic exegesis; (2) to identify the factors that influence it; and (3) to formulate alternative readings that are contextual and relevant. The method used is a qualitative approach with a critical-constructivist paradigm, integrating discourse criticism and social hermeneutics, with primary sources ranging from classical to contemporary tafsir texts and academic literature. The results of the study show a transformation of the interpretation paradigm from textual-linguistic to a more ethical and inclusive contextual-transformative approach. This study concludes that the discourse analysis approach enriches the methodology of interpretation, encourages the reformulation of social jurisprudence and transformative interpretation education, and revitalizes Qur'anic values in building just social relations in the contemporary era.

Abstract

This article presents a semantic analysis of two Qur’anic concepts related to psychological resilience—sakinah and thuma’ninah—to construct a Qur’an-based model for strengthening mental health. Employing Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic framework, including etymological, syntagmatic, and paradigmatic analysis, the study demonstrates that these concepts, often treated synonymously in translation, represent distinct psychological states. Sakinah refers to a situational and temporary tranquility bestowed as divine intervention (anzala), functioning as acute psychological stabilization during crises. In contrast, thuma’ninah denotes a stable and enduring tranquility rooted in internal spiritual maturity, developed through sustained dhikr, faith, and mujahadah, and reflected in the formation of the nafs mutma’innah. Based on these findings, the study proposes a three-phase Qur’anic resilience model: adversity, stabilization through sakinah, and transformation through thuma’ninah, which enhances long-term resilience capacity. This model integrates psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions through cognitive reframing, emotional regulation, meaning-making, and post-traumatic spiritual growth within an Islamic worldview. The findings contribute to Islamic psychology and thematic Qur’anic interpretation (tafsir maudhu‘i), offering a theoretical foundation for culturally and spiritually integrated Muslim mental health interventions.
