Abstract

Spinal anesthesia is a procedure performed by injecting local anesthetic drugs into the subarachnoid block space and preventing the onset of excitatory nerve conduction by inhibiting ion flow. Intraoperative Nausea and Vomiting (IONV) is a common side effect after surgery and anesthesia. IONV is associated with various factors that can be categorized into risks related to patient factors, anesthetic factors, and surgical factors. Ondansetron is an oral and parenteral serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonist. It is used for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. Ondansetron is a very safe and effective antiemetic compared to previous antiemetics. Dexamethasone is a class of steroids used as anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive agents. Based on research it was found that dexamethasone can effectively prevent the occurrence of IONV. Objective: to assess the effectiveness of giving a combination of ondansetron and dexamethasone to prevent intraoperative nausea and vomiting with spinal anesthesia technique in IBS Simo Hospital. Research Methodology: the number of patients who have a history of DM makes it difficult to find respondents. The initial response plan of 44 people became 41 people. Results: Describe the characteristics consisting of gender, age, weight, ASA, and surgical diagnosis. Conclusion: Based on the results of research and discussion that has been done, it can be concluded that the average gender (51.2%), average age (39.0%), average Bb (53.7%), average ASA (75.6%), average duration of surgery (75.6%), and average IONV score analysis (95.1%).

Abstract

The post-operative recovery process is an important aspect in improving the quality of life for the elderly. A proper understanding of wound care, pain management, and activities that can accelerate recovery is essential to support their healing. Therefore, appropriate education and counseling are needed to help the elderly manage their recovery process effectively. The aim of this community service activity is to improve the knowledge and skills of the elderly community in Surakarta regarding post-operative healing. The method used in this activity is a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design consisting of a pre-test and post-test with one group. The respondents were 20 elderly individuals who had undergone surgery. A pre-test was conducted before the education to measure the initial knowledge level of the elderly regarding post-operative care. After providing education on wound care, pain management, and the importance of recovery activities, a post-test was conducted to measure changes in the elderly’s knowledge after receiving the education. The results of this activity showed a significant increase in the elderly’s knowledge, as indicated by the difference between pre-test and post-test scores. This demonstrates that the education provided was effective in enhancing the elderly’s understanding of post-operative care and recovery processes. This activity is expected to help the elderly recover more quickly and effectively, thereby improving their quality of life after surgery.

Abstract

Post-spinal anesthesia nausea and vomiting (PSANV) are common side effects that can affect patient comfort and recovery after surgery. This condition often disrupts the recovery process and may extend the post-operative care period. One non-pharmacological method that can help reduce nausea and vomiting is deep breathing techniques. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of deep breathing techniques in reducing the incidence of nausea and vomiting after spinal anesthesia. The method used in this study is a pre-test and post-test design, with an intervention consisting of deep breathing exercises for patients undergoing surgery with spinal anesthesia. A pre-test was conducted before the intervention to assess the incidence of nausea and vomiting in patients. After patients practiced deep breathing exercises for a certain period, a post-test was performed to evaluate changes in the frequency of nausea and vomiting post-operation. The results showed a significant reduction in the frequency of nausea and vomiting after patients practiced deep breathing techniques. This technique has proven to be a simple, safe, and effective method to enhance post-operative comfort. Therefore, the implementation of deep breathing techniques can be recommended as part of post-spinal anesthesia management in healthcare facilities to improve patient recovery quality.

Abstract

Non-pharmacological pain management is an important approach to improving the quality of life of patients with chronic pain. This technique includes various methods, such as relaxation, heat and cold therapy, distraction, and deep breathing techniques, which aim to reduce the perception of pain without the need for medication. This approach is especially useful for patients who cannot or do not want to rely on pharmacological treatment. This training aims to improve the understanding and skills of health cadres in implementing non-pharmacological techniques in pain management in the community. This community service uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design to measure changes in the understanding and skills of health cadres. Respondents consisted of 20 health cadres who lived in Jajar Village, Surakarta. The training materials included basic theories of pain management, as well as direct practice of non-pharmacological techniques. The results of the community service showed a significant increase in the understanding and skills of health cadres after being given training. This can be seen from the significant difference in pre-test and post-test scores. This increase indicates that non-pharmacological training is effective in improving the competence of health cadres, which is expected to be applied in helping patients manage pain in a safer and more efficient way.

Abstract

Patient safety during intraoperative procedures is a top priority in nursing services in the operating room. However, patient and family understanding of intraoperative nursing management is still limited, which can have an impact on patient readiness before undergoing surgery. This community service activity aims to improve patient and family knowledge about the important role of intraoperative nursing in maintaining patient safety. The method used is an educational approach through interactive counseling delivered directly to patients and families in the pre-operative room. The material includes patient safety standards, the role of nurses during surgical procedures, and the importance of effective communication between the medical team, patients, and families. Evaluation was carried out by comparing the level of understanding before and after education using a simple questionnaire. The results showed a significant increase in understanding, seen from changes in patient attitudes and readiness to face surgical procedures. Appropriate and easy-to-understand education has been shown to be effective in supporting active participation of patients and families, as well as encouraging the creation of a safer surgical environment.
