Abstract

Development is a process of physical and psychological change that reflects an increase in complexity from a simple state to a more complex state and occurs regularly and systematically throughout an individual's lifetime. For students, development includes not only the need for guidance and independent abilities, but also unique physical and psychological growth. This article describes the stages of student development which include the sensorimotor stage, preoperational stage, concrete operational stage, and formal operational stage, based on Jean Piaget's theory. Apart from that, internal and external factors that influence student development are also identified, including physical, psychological, family, school and community environmental factors. Educators play an important role in supporting student development through various strategies, including: Building skills, providing motivation, and creating an environment conducive to learning. With the right approach, optimal student development can be achieved.

Abstract

Minat baca merupakan fondasi penting dalam membentuk kebiasaan literasi yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran siswa. Namun, kenyataan menunjukkan bahwa minat baca siswa sekolah dasar masih tergolong rendah. Artikel ini membahas pentingnya minat baca, manfaat membaca, serta berbagai faktor internal dan eksternal yang memengaruhinya. Faktor internal meliputi intelegensi, usia, kemampuan membaca, sikap, dan kebutuhan psikologis, sedangkan faktor eksternal mencakup ketersediaan bahan bacaan, status sosial ekonomi, pengaruh lingkungan, peran orang tua, guru, serta pengaruh media seperti televisi dan film. Rendahnya minat baca berakibat pada lemahnya pemahaman materi pelajaran dan prestasi belajar siswa. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya kolaboratif antara sekolah, keluarga, dan lingkungan untuk membiasakan kegiatan membaca sejak dini. Strategi seperti membacakan buku sebelum pembelajaran, penyediaan bacaan yang menarik, dan penciptaan lingkungan literat menjadi kunci untuk menumbuhkan minat baca anak secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study aims to improve elementary school students' paragraph writing skills through the application of the Pair Check cooperative learning model supported by YouTube media, images, and picture cards. Paragraph writing skills are an important aspect in learning Indonesian, but students often have difficulty in developing ideas coherently and interestingly. This study uses a Classroom Action Approach (CAR) which is implemented in two cycles, with elementary school students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, written tests, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the application of the Pair Check model facilitates cooperation between students and facilitates the process of correcting each other's work results. The use of YouTube media provides concrete examples of paragraph structure, while images and picture cards help students develop ideas visually and contextually. There was a significant increase in the quality and number of paragraphs written by students in each cycle. Thus, this learning strategy has proven effective in improving elementary school students' paragraph writing skills.
