Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of learning style and emotional intelligence on mathematical problem solving abilities on the subject of trigonometry comparisons in the 2013 curriculum learning. Quantitative research using the Expost Facto method. The sample in this study was 91 MA Putra Al-Ishlahuddiny class X students using random sampling technique. The research instruments used were a learning styles questionnaire, an emotional intelligence questionnaire and a mathematical problem solving ability test. Based on the results of the two-way ANOVA test, the following results were obtained: (1) There was no influence of students' learning styles on mathematical problem solving abilities in trigonometry material for MA Putra Al-Ishlahuddiny students. (2) There is an influence of students' emotional intelligence on mathematical problem solving abilities in the trigonometry material of MA Putra Al-Ishlahuddiny students. (3) There is no interaction effect between learning style and students' emotional intelligence on mathematical problem solving abilities in trigonometry material for MA Putra Al-Ishlahuddiny students.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the critical thinking abilities of class VIII MTsN 2 Mataram students in solving questions on function material. The sample in this study was 30 students from class VIII-B. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this research were 6 students recommended by the mathematics subject observer teacher for class VIII-B at MTsN 2 Mataram. Sampling in this study used a purposive sampling technique, namely by selecting 2 students in the high category, 2 students in the medium category and 2 students in the low category according to the researcher's objectives. The data collection technique used was a written test with 2 descriptive questions and an interview. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research results show that students who have high category critical thinking skills fulfill all indicators, namely focus, reason, inference, situation, clarity and overview. Students who have moderate critical thinking skills meet 4-5 indicators, namely reason, inference, situation, clarity and overview. Meanwhile, students who have low critical thinking skills fulfill 1-3 indicators, namely reason, inference and situation.

Abstract

This study analyzes the spatial grouping of cities and districts in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indonesia, based on indicators of the Human Development Index (HDI). Using secondary data from the NTB Central Bureau of Statistics for 2022, four HDI components, which include life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling, and adjusted per capita expenditure, were employed as clustering variables. A hierarchical cluster analysis with various linkage methods, including average, single, complete, centroid, median, and Ward methods, was applied to classify the ten cities and districts. The optimal number of clusters was determined using the Davies–Bouldin Index (DBI). The results reveal that the lowest DBI value (0.4573) was obtained through the single linkage method, indicating the formation of three optimal clusters. The first cluster includes West Lombok and West Sumbawa Regencies, the second cluster consists of Central Lombok, East Lombok, Sumbawa, Dompu, Bima, North Lombok, and Bima City, while the third cluster contains only Mataram City. The findings highlight regional disparities in HDI performance across NTB and suggest that human development programs should be tailored according to the characteristics of each cluster to ensure more equitable progress among regions. KEYWORDS: Human Development Index, cluster analysis, regional disparities, West Nusa Tenggara, hierarchical clustering.
