Abstract

Islamic boarding schools are one of the Indonesian instructive educate that utilize formal and informal curricula. In their learning activities, some students have difficulty taking formal subjects, especially a subject in this research, namely mathematics. This research aimed to develop an Islamic-based mathematics learning model for Islamic boarding school students to suit the students’ needs. The research design was Research Development. Information collection was carried out through interviews, questionnaires, tests, and perception sheets. The research results from the try- out of an Islamic boarding school student mathematics learning model that integrated mathematics with Qur’an values had a significant effect on learning outcomes and increased student motivation in learning. Therefore, this learning model was very feasible and suitable to be implemented for Islamic boarding school students.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as educational institutions based on spiritual values face challenges in learning mathematics, which is often perceived as difficult by students. This study aims to develop and implement the MASTER Ulil Albab mathematics learning model, an extension of the MASTER model that explicitly integrates three dimensions (spiritual, theoretical, and applicative) of Ulil Albab concept to contextualize mathematics learning within Islamic values. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The study was conducted at MTs Ahmad Yani, Jabung, Malang Regency, involving 27 eighth-grade students (n = 27). This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with a 4D approach (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) to produce a valid and effective learning model. Data were collected using a needs analysis questionnaire and a posttest, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques. The results of the needs analysis indicate that students require an integrative mathematics learning model. Furthermore, the posttest results show an average score of 87.59, exceeding the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). These findings provide an indication of improved students’ understanding of mathematics after the implementation of the MASTER Ulil Albab model. This study highlights the novelty of integrating the MASTER learning syntax with the Ulil Albab concept, emphasizing the balance of spiritual awareness, theoretical understanding, and applicative skills in mathematics learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis pengembangan kemampuan bernalar matematis peserta didik melalui model pembelajaran MASTER Ulil Albab pada materi himpunan. Model ini memadukan sintaks Motivating, Acquiring, Searching, Triggering, Exhibiting, dan Reflecting dengan nilai spiritual, teoritis, serta aplikatif untuk menguatkan berpikir logis, reflektif, dan berlandaskan nilai keislaman. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan subjek 6 peserta didik kelas VIII MTs Ahmad Yani Jabung yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes dan wawancara, kemudian diuji keabsahannya menggunakan triangulasi teknik. Analisis data mengacu pada Miles dan Huberman, meliputi reduksi data, penyajian, dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil menunjukkan peserta didik berkategori tinggi mampu merepresentasikan konsep, memanipulasi simbol, dan memberi justifikasi logis terkait nilai Islam. Kategori sedang cukup memahami konsep dan menyimpulkan, namun lemah pada alasan matematis dan pembuktian. Kategori rendah mengalami hambatan memahami konsep abstrak dan mengaitkannya dengan aspek spiritual. Secara umum, model MASTER meningkatkan penalaran matematis dan karakter Islami.
