Abstract

Background: Working Memory is a memory system capable of analyzing information after receiving it and can then be displayed again (Nadira et al., 2023). Meanwhile, reading comprehension is a reading activity that involves cognitive roles in thinking, analyzing, and understanding a text (Tahmidaten & Krismanto, 2020). Thus, the ability of working memory is a cognitive component that can be related to reading comprehension ability, which requires cognitive roles in thinking. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between working memory and reading comprehension in fourth-grade students at SDIT Cahaya Hati Pedan, Klaten Regency. Methods: This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational research design and a cross-sectional data collection approach. The sampling technique was carried out using simple random sampling technique. Simple Random Sampling is a sampling of part of the population where each member has the same opportunity to be selected. This study used a sample of 55 4th grade students at SDIT Cahaya Hati Pedan, Klaten Regency. The collected data will be analyzed descriptively and bivariately. The statistical test used is Spearman Rank due to the non-normal distribution of the data (non-parametric). Research Results: The results of the statistical test, specifically the Spearman rank test, indicate that the abilities of working memory and reading comprehension have a significance of 0.000 (ρ value), where 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected, and Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. The strength of the relationship can be seen from the results of r = 0.589 these results indicate that the strength of the correlation is moderate and shows a positive correlation direction. Conclusion: This research concludes that there is a relationship between working memory and reading comprehension in fourth-grade students at SDIT Cahaya Hati Pedan, Klaten Regency. Abstract

Children's language abilities are critical and require significant attention. Children with strong language skills can establish effective communication and social interactions within the community. Moreover, their language proficiency can also affect their academic achievements in school. This study aims to explore the profile and factors influencing the language development of children aged 5-6 years at Aisyiyah 5 Semanggi Kindergarten, Surakarta. The research employs a mixed-method approach using a convergent design, which combines different forms of data. Qualitative data collection methods include observation, documentation, and interviews, while quantitative data are gathered through three tests designed to measure syntax, semantics, and pragmatics skills. The study subjects consist of 20 children selected using purposive sampling. The results indicate that the syntax abilities of children aged 5-6 years at Aisyiyah 5 Semanggi Kindergarten are high, while their semantic and pragmatic abilities are very high. However, some respondents exhibit low to moderate abilities. These findings suggest that enhancing children's language skills can be achieved by improving language stimulation through parental caregiving at home and by increasing the role of teachers in providing additional learning media during classroom activities.

Abstract

Background: Speech delay in children is a common problem. A child is said to be late in speaking if his speech ability is below the proper level of development of the child's speech, and this has an impact on the child in developing his social skills (social skills). So it needs to be a serious concern for parents in supporting their children. Objectives: This research aims to determine the relation between parental support and social skill in children with speech delay aged 3-6 years at Liliput Clinic, Jakarta. Methods: This is a quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design and a correlational approach. Total Sampling was used as a data sampling technique for 35 samples. The research instrument used a questionnaire on parental support and social skills. Both data scales are ordinal and analyzed using the Kendall Tau test. Results: Based on the correlation test data analysis, the result is p = 0.006 which means that the p value < 0.05. So it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. This indicates that there is a relation between parental support and social skill in children with speech delay. Meanwhile, the correlation coefficient (r) is 0.337 which indicates that the relationship between the two variables is in the weak category and the direction of the correlation is positive. Conclusion: It can be concluded from this research that there is a relation between parental support and social skill in children with speech delay aged 3-6 years at Liliput Clinic, Jakarta. Abstract

Background: Passive smokers inhale 75% of ambient smoke and 50% of exhaled smoke. A cigarette contains 4.000 poisonous chemical agents, at least 69 of which are carcinogenic. Therefore ambient tobacco smoke is detrimental to health. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of knowledge, peer group, family, cigarette price, stipend, access to cigarette, and attitude, on smoking behavior.Subjects and Method: This was an analytic and observational study with cross sectional design. This study was conducted at School of Health Polytechnics, Surakarta, Central Java. A total of 105 male students was selected for this study. The dependent variable smoking status. The independent variables knowledge, peer group, family, cigarette price, stipend, access to cigarette, and attitude. The data were collected by a set of questionnaire, and were analyze by logistic regression model. Results: High smoking peer group (OR= 3.21; 95% CI=1.18- 8.72; p= 0.022), high stipend (OR= 3.66; 95% CI= 1.28-10.49; p= 0.016), convenient access to cigarette (OR= 3.02; 95% CI= 1.04 to 8.73; p= 0.042) increased the likelihood of smoking.  High knowledge about tobacco smoking (OR= 0.35; 95% CI=0.13-0.95; p = 0.039) and non-smoking family (OR= 0.16; 95% CI=0.03 to 0.70; p= 0.015) decreased the likelihood of smoking. High price of cigarette (OR= 0.86; 95% CI= 0.23 to 3.19; p= 0.819) and possitive attitude (OR= 0.88; 95% CI= 0.33 to 2.36; p= 0.795) did not show statistically significant effect on smoking.Conclusion: Smoking peer group, stipend, access to cigarette  increase the probability of smoking.  Knowledge about tobacco smoking and non-smoking family decrease the probability of smoking.Keywords:  knowledge, peer group, family, cigarette price, stipend, access to cigarette, attitude, smoking behaviorCorrespondence: R. Abstract

Abstract Background: Children with Special Needs are children who have limitations in one or several abilities, both physical, such as blind, deaf, and psychological, such as autism and ADHD. The influence of the media in the form of picture cards on vocabulary, memory, and the subject's ability to mention vocabulary, so that the subject is not left behind in language skills. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of using concept cards on increasing expressive language skills in Children with Special Needs at the Hey Kids Kartasura Clinic. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used is total sampling with a total sample of 15 respondents. To find out whether there is an increase in expressive language skills, a pre-test and post-test were carried out on these respondents. The statistical test used in this research is the Paired T-Test. Results: The results of the study found that there was a significant effect between the use of concept cards on increasing expressive language skills in Children with Special Needs. The results of the Paired T-Test showed a P value (sig.) 0.010 (P <0.05 = Ha accepted). Conclusion: There is an effect of using concept cards on increasing expressive language skills in Children with Special Needs at the Hey Kids Kartasura Clinic. Abstract

Gangguan perkembangan bahasa adalah gangguan komunikasi yang dapat mengganggu proses belajar, memahami, dan menggunakan bahasa. Anak dengan gangguan ini sering mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajari, mempertahankan, dan menggunakan kosakata. Gangguan perkembangan bahasa menjadi salah satu fokus utama dalam layanan terapi wicara karena prevalensinya yang paling tinggi dibandingkan masalah komunikasi lainnya. Dalam layanan terapi wicara salah satu faktor yang dapat meningkatkan kosakata anak adalah dosis terapi wicara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh antara dosis terapi wicara terhadap kemampuan kosakata pada anak gangguan perkembangan bahasa di Klinik Pandugo Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode mixed method research, dengan desain convergent parallel design, di mana data kuantitatif dan kualitatif dikumpulkan secara bersamaan, dengan teknik pengambilan sampel adalah Purposive Sampling. Tiap responden akan diberikan kuesioner dosis terapi wicara, kuesioner demografi fungsional kosakata, dan wawancara terstruktur, dimana hasil data kuantitatif akan dianalisis secara univariat dan bivariat menggunakan Pearson Correlation. Hasil dosis terapi wicara di Klinik Pandugo Surabaya menunjukkan kategori tinggi, yaitu mencapai 55%, dan kemampuan kosakata 60% baik, 30% cukup, dan 10% buruk. Hasil uji Pearson Correlation menunjukkan nilai p (Sig.) sebesar 0.002. Terdapat pengaruh dosis terapi wicara terhadap kemampuan kosakata dengan nilai p (Sig.) sebesar 0.002 yang artinya Ha diterima. Berdasarkan angka koefisien sebesar +0,656 yang berarti hubungan sangat kuat. Hubungan kedua variabel tersebut bersifat searah yang artinya semakin tinggi dosis terapi wicara maka semakin baik juga kemampuan kosakatanya.
