Abstract

Background: Hearing is one of the five senses that plays an important role in early childhood development. With hearing, a child can learn to speak, socialize, and increase their intellectual development. Hearing impairment is a problem that can occur at any age and makes it difficult for someone to communicate verbally. Apart from this, hearing impairment can also result in delays in speech and language skills in children, which are also associated with difficulties in reading, writing, paying attention, and social interaction. Methods: The subjects of this research were children with hearing impairments. An experimental research design was used to determine the effect of certain treatments, with a one-group pre- and post-test design and a sample size of 30 people. bivariate test analysis with different tests to determine the effect of auditory perception training on improving the speaking ability of hearing-impaired children in Surakarta using the paired test technique. Results: The results of the analysis using the Wilcoxon rank test showed a statistical significance value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05), so there was a significant influence between auditory perception training and speaking ability in children with hearing impairment. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the speaking ability of deaf children improved after auditory perception training was carried out. There is a significant effect of auditory perception training on the speaking ability of deaf children (p-value 0.000 < 0.05).

Abstract

Background: Some people have problems in social interaction with different factors. One of those who experience communication disorders in social interactions, namely children with Hearing Impairment. The auditory system provides information about the acoustic effects of articulation. Auditory feedback is very important in coordinating articulation processes, because the purpose of speech is to produce intelligible acoustic signals. The prevalence from the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2019, among persons with disabilities in Indonesia, 7.03% are persons with hearing disabilities. Purpose: This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship and description of the intensity of social interaction with articulation skills in children with Hearing Impairment at SLB YRTRW Surakarta. Methods: This research is a quantitative study using descriptive methods through a correlational design. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling with a population of 108 people and a sample of 25 people. Research Results: Based on the research results obtained from data analysis using the Spearman rank analysis test there is a significance value (ρ) of 0.292, which means a significance value (ρ) > 0.05. Then the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. The correlation coefficient (r) between the intensity of social interaction and articulation skills is (r) = -0.219, which means that it has no relationship with weak strength. Conclusion: There is no relationship between the intensity of social interaction and articulation skills in children with Hearing Impairment at SLB YRTRW Surakarta. Abstract

Background: Stunting, a chronic nutritional disorder from prolonged inadequate intake, affects not only physical growth but also cognitive and language development. Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and maternal education are important predictors of stunting risk. Guided by early childhood development theory, this study aims to analyze the implications of stunting on children's cognitive abilities and language development in Karanganyar Regency to inform effective intervention strategies.Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, from April to August 2024. A total of 112 children were selected through purposive sampling. The independent variables were stunting status, cognitive ability, mid-upper arm circumference, and maternal education, while the dependent variable was language development. Data were collected through standardized measurements and structured interviews. Logistic regression analysis was performed using Stata 13 to examine the associations between variables. Results: Bivariate analysis revealed that delayed language development was significantly associated with stunting (OR=19.05; p<0.001), poor cognitive ability (OR=18.63; p<0.001), MUAC <13 cm (OR=9.41; p<0.001), and low maternal education (OR=21.21; p<0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that stunting (b=2.09; 95% CI=1.02 to 3.16; p<0.001) and poor cognitive ability (b=2.06; 95% CI=0.99 to 3.13; p<0.001) had direct effects on delayed language development. Conclusion: Stunting directly impairs children's cognitive ability and language development. Additionally, maternal education and mid-upper arm circumference have indirect effects on these outcomes through their influence on stunting. These findings highlight the need for integrated nutritional and educational interventions to promote optimal child development.
