Abstract

Abstract: The circulation of hazardous cosmetic products containing high-risk chemicals poses a serious threat to consumers. This article examines the legal responsibilities of business actors in ensuring consumer protection based on Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection. The study aims to analyze issues related to the violation of business actors' responsibilities, the effectiveness of government oversight, and legal remedies available to harmed consumers. The research adopts a normative juridical approach by analyzing relevant laws and real-life cases. The findings reveal that business actors are responsible for ensuring product safety, providing accurate information, and complying with licensing standards. However, weak government oversight and low consumer legal awareness remain major obstacles to law enforcement. This article highlights the importance of strengthening regulatory oversight and educating consumers to prevent the distribution of hazardous cosmetic products. Through collaboration between the government, business actors, and the public, effective consumer protection can be achieved. Keywords: Legal Responsibility, Hazardous Cosmetics, Consumer Protection.

Abstract

Abstract: Social media platforms such as Facebook are now widely used as tools for product promotion and transactions. However, this transaction model often lacks adequate legal protection for consumers. This study aims to analyze the form of legal protection for consumers who purchase products through Facebook advertisements. The research method used is normative juridical, with a statutory and literature approach. The findings indicate that transactions through Facebook ads are generally conducted directly between sellers and buyers without third-party intermediaries, thereby increasing the risk of consumer loss—especially in cases of fraud, mismatched goods, or undelivered products. Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection has not been fully effective in protecting consumers in such transactions, as it does not specifically regulate commercial activities on social media. Therefore, additional regulations are needed, along with efforts to improve public digital literacy so that consumers better understand their rights and avoid potential losses. Keywords: consumer protection, Facebook ads, online transactions.

Abstract

Law enforcement against the circulation of expired goods is a crucial step in consumer protection. The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Padang plays a significant role in conducting surprise inspections (sidak) to ensure the safety of products circulating in the market. This study aims to examine law enforcement efforts through BPOM's Padang sidak in realizing consumer protection against the circulation of expired goods. The research method used is a case study by analyzing secondary data in the form of BPOM's Padang sidak reports on supermarkets and convenience stores suspected of selling expired goods. The results show that BPOM's Padang sidak is effective in identifying and securing expired goods from circulation. Furthermore, sidak also has a deterrent effect on businesses that do not comply with regulations. However, some challenges are still found in the implementation of BPOM's Padang sidak, such as limited resources and coordination among related agencies. Therefore, further steps are needed to improve the effectiveness of BPOM's padang sidak, such as enhancing coordination among agencies, increasing BPOM's Padang human resource capacity, and raising consumer awareness of their rights to safe and quality products. Thus, consumer protection against the circulation of expired goods can be more optimal.
