Abstract

This paper explores the role of the Catholic Church in the cognitive revolution driven by science and digital technology, and its engagement with stakeholders in technological development. Using qualitative analysis, it proposes a framework of “prophetic dialogue” from the Catholic perspective to effectively engage with stakeholders. The framework is developed from the teachings of the Catholic Church on mission engagement, and the ideas of theologians Stephen Bevans and Walter Bruggemann, focusing on mission, prophetic dialogue, and prophetic communication. Analyzing the framework in the digital context reveals that prophetic dialogue is an appropriate and effective approach for engaging with stakeholders, including innovators, policymakers, and consumers. By employing prophetic dialogue, the Church can shape the future of technology while safeguarding against potential negative consequences. The paper highlights the Church’s proactive role in influencing technological development and offers insights for other religious stakeholders in navigating the challenges and opportunities of the digital future. Keywords: prophetic dialogue, digital technology, digital future, stakeholders, religious communication

Abstract

The exploration of environmental virtues within religious teachings has gained significant attention in recent years, as scholars in the field of religious environmentalism seek to apply the framework of environmental virtue ethics to religious contexts. This paper focuses on Islam and proposes that responsibility is a fundamental environmental virtue within this tradition. By employing a qualitative analysis method, the paper examines scriptural and scholarly resources within Islam to provide a comprehensive understanding of this virtue. The argument posits that responsibility is considered an environmental virtue due to its essential role in guiding Muslims' attitudes and behaviors towards God, themselves, society, and the natural world. It emphasizes that the concept of responsibility in Islam can only be fully comprehended within the broader Islamic worldview, which acknowledges God as the ultimate source and owner of all things and recognizes the pivotal role of human beings in God's divine plan. This research not only contributes to the broader discourse on religious environmental virtue ethics but also specifically advances the development of an Islamic environmental virtue ethics framework.

Abstract

The journey of life experienced by an individual, along with the dynamics faced, reflects various motivations influenced by intentions and the environment, shaping individual behavior. This study explores the changes in the motivations of the main character in the film ‘How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.’ The main character, influenced by his personal interactions with Amah, alters his motivation from wealth to appreciation of Amah’s legacy of wisdom and relationship. Using the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), this research reveals that the motivations shift from externally driven materialistic goals to internally driven emotional goals. Through a qualitative approach employing Todorov's Narrative Analysis Method, the findings demonstrate that interpersonal communication is crucial in transforming motivations, showing how social interactions can influence individual attitudes and behaviors, and highlighting the importance of family values in this transformation process. To conclude, every rational action generates intrinsic and extrinsic drives, regardless of whether the outcome aligns with the original objective. The dynamics and communication involved will lead to self-development. Keywords: Interpersonal Communications; Motivation; Theory of Reasoned Action; Todorov’s Narrative Analysis
