Abstract

This research aims to describe the experience of toxic relationships in young adults who are currently in a dating relationship. In an era that is increasingly open to relationship issues, toxic relationships are one of the problems that individuals often face, especially in early adulthood who are looking for identity and emotional stability. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with interview techniques. This research involved five sources aged between 20 and 25 years, who had experience in dating relationships that were considered toxic. The research results showed that the signs of a toxic relationship experienced by the interviewee included excessive control, poor communication, emotional violence, and inequality in the relationship. In addition, most interviewees expressed difficulty in getting out of the relationship because of feelings of emotional dependence, fear of rejection, and uncertainty about the future. It is hoped that this research can provide a deeper understanding of the dynamics of toxic relationships among young adults.
