Abstract

This research aims to explore the influence of the principal's transformational leadership on teacher performance and school quality. With a quantitative descriptive approach, a survey was used as a data collection instrument involving teachers in several junior high schools in Meranti Islands Regency. Data analysis used SPSS version 24 to test validity, reliability and carry out multiple linear regression analysis. The research results show that the principal's transformational leadership has a significant influence on teacher performance and school quality, with a contribution of 51.4%, while 48.6% is influenced by other variables. This research fills the gap in the literature regarding the application of transformational leadership in the context of Indonesian schools. These findings provide new insight into the importance of inspirational and inclusive transformational leadership in improving the quality of education. The novelty of the research lies in the holistic and contextual approach, as well as in-depth empirical analysis regarding its implementation. The research also identified concrete strategies for school principals to improve teacher competency and educational quality. These findings are relevant for policy makers and educational practitioners in developing strategies to improve the quality of education.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of school management and organizational culture on the performance of junior high school teachers in the Meranti Islands Regency. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 143 civil servant teachers from 41 junior high schools as the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using regression methods to examine the relationship between the independent variables (school management and organizational culture) and the dependent variable (teacher performance). The results revealed that school management and organizational culture collectively have a significant impact on teacher performance. The F-value (8.945) was greater than the F-table value (2.67) with a significance level of 0.000 (< 0.05). These findings confirm that both variables significantly influence teacher performance when combined. The study is limited to civil servant teachers in the Meranti Islands Regency, and its results may not be generalizable to other regions or teachers with different employment statuses. The findings have practical implications for school administrators and policymakers to enhance teacher performance through improvements in school management, organizational culture, and workload management. Additionally, the study contributes to the literature on factors influencing teacher performance in remote areas, which remains an under-researched topic.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of school management, organizational culture, and workload on junior high school teachers' performance in Meranti Islands Regency. Using a quantitative approach, this study involved 135 civil servant teachers from 41 junior high schools as the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using regression to examine the relationship between the independent variables (school management, organizational culture, workload) and the dependent variable (teacher performance). The results of the analysis show that simultaneously, the three independent variables have a significant effect on teacher performance. The calculated F value (8.945) is greater than the F table (2.67), with a significant value of 0.000 <0.05. The null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted, indicating a significant impact of the three variables on the performance of junior high school teachers in Meranti Islands Regency. This study was limited to a population of junior high school civil servant teachers in Meranti Islands Regency, so the results may not be generalizable to other regions or employment statuses. The findings have practical implications for school managers and education policy makers to improve teacher performance through improved school management, organizational culture, and effective workload management.

Abstract

School Management Model Based on Community Participation HARMONY Approach to Improving School Quality. Objective: This study aims to develop and implement a school management model based on community participation using the HARMONY approach to improve the quality of secondary schools in Kepulauan Meranti Regency. The research seeks to assess the effectiveness of this model in enhancing school quality through comprehensive community involvement. Methods: The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal and vice principal of SMPN 1 Tebing Tinggi Barat and SMPN 2 Tebing Tinggi. Quantitative data were gathered through surveys involving various school stakeholders, such as teachers, students, and parents. Findings: The study’s results demonstrate that the implementation of a community participation-based school management model using the HARMONY approach significantly improves the quality of education in secondary schools in Kepulauan Meranti Regency. Data analysis reveals that effective school management has a significant impact on school quality, with a coefficient of 0.576. Community participation also shows a significant influence with a coefficient of 0.173. However, organizational culture does not significantly affect school quality and does not function as a strong mediator in the relationship between school management and community participation. Conclusion: The HARMONY approach standing for Holistic, Accountable, Responsive, Independent, Optimal, Normative, and Inclusive provides an innovative framework for integrating community participation into school management. This approach has the potential to enhance educational quality, especially in remote areas. The findings suggest that community-based school management is a viable solution for improving school performance in underdeveloped regions. Keywords: community participation, HARMONI approach, islands regency meranti, quality of education, school management.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i2.202487
