Abstract

This research entitled “Positive Politeness Strategies in The Karate Kid Movie” aims at identifying the types of positive politeness strategies used in The Karate Kid movie and analyzing the response occurred to the realization of positive politeness strategies in The Karate Kid movie. The data of this research were taken from the transcript of the conversation in the movie. The data were in the form of words, phrases, and sentences of the characters. The method and technique to collect the data was documentation and supported by note-taking technique. The method and technique of analyzing the data was qualitative method and supported by triangulation technique. The method and technique of presenting analysis was informal method and supported by descriptive technique. The theory of Brown and Levinson’s (1987) was used to analyze the types of positive politeness strategies and Levinson’s (1983) theory was used to analyze the types of response occurred to the realization of positive politeness strategies. The results found there were 9 types of positive politeness strategies which used by the characters in The Karate Kid movie namely, strategy 1 Notice, attend to H (his/her interests, wants, needs, goods), strategy 2 Exaggerate (interest, approval, sympathy with H), strategy 4 Use in group identity markers, strategy 5 Seek agreement, strategy 9 Asserting/presupposing S’s knowledge of and concern for H’s wants, strategy 10 Offer, promise, strategy 11 Be optimistic, strategy 12 Include both S and H in the activity, and strategy 13 Give (or ask for) reasons. Regarding to the response occurred to the realization of positive politeness strategies both preferred response and dispreferred response were used by the characters to the realization of positive politeness strategies in The Karate Kid movie. Abstract

AbstrakKemampuan kognitif memiliki peranan yang sangat penting bagi perkembangan anak usia dini, terkaitproses pembelajaran. Kemampuan kognitif terdiri dari tiga aspek yakni memecahkan masalah, berpikir logis, danberpikir simbolik. Upaya peningkatan kemampuan tersebut dapat dilakukan dengan memberikan rangsangan yangtepat sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan anak sehingga memperoleh hasil yang optimal. Upaya meningkatkankemampuan berpikir simbolik dalam pemahaman konsep bilangan dapat dilakukan melalui permainan sepit guli.Penelitian ini dirancang sebagai Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatanpemahaman konsep bilangan anak melalui permainan sepit guli. Subjek penelitian adalah anak-anak Kelompok Bdi TK Gapura I Jegu yang berjumlah 22 anak. Pelaksanaan penelitian ini dilaksanakan melalui 2 siklus.Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi. Metode pengolahan data yang digunakananalisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil observasi awal terhadap pengenalan konseplambang bilangan anak menunjukkan jumlah ketuntasan sebesar 63,6%. Pada penerapan permainan sepit guli padaSiklus I kemampuan pengenalan konsep bilangan anak mengalami peningkatan menjadi 72,8%. Pada pelaksanaanSiklus II kembali mengalami peningkatan menjadi 95,5%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkanbahwa permainan sepit guli mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir simbolis anak Kelompok B TK Gapura IJegu.Kata Kunci : kemampuan berpikir simbolik, konsep bilangan, permainan sepit guli.AbstractCognitive ability has a very important role for early childhood development. Cognitive abilities consist ofthree aspects: problem solving, logical thinking and symbolic thinking. Efforts to increase those abilities could bedone by providing the right stimulation according to the stage of its development in order to obtain the optimalresults. Efforts to improve the symbolic thinking ability in the numbers concept understanding can be done by thegame of Guli Sepit. The aim of study to determine the increase of the numbers concept understanding throughtGuli Sepit game. Subjects were taken from 22 children in Group B at TK Gapura I Jegu. The research was carriedout in 2 cycles. Data collection in this study taken by observation. The data analysis method applied descriptivestatistical analiysis and quantitative analysis.The results of preliminary observations of the child number conceptsymbols introduction indicated the completeness of 63,6%. In the application of Guli Sepit game in 1st Cycle, therecognition ability increased to 72,8%. In the 2nd Cycle it increased to 95,5%. Based on thes results, it can beconcluded that the Guli Sepit game improved the children symbolic thinking ability in Group B TK Gapura I Jegu.Keywords : symbolic thinking ability, numbers concept, sepit guli game.
