Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine whether or not authentic materials are attractive to SMA Negeri 9 Bulukumba students in the tenth grade, as well as to improve the students' achievement in paragraph writing utilising authentic resources. Quasi-experiment research methodology was used. The study was conducted in the academic year of 2023–2024 at SMA Negeri 9 Bulukumba. There were 300 students in the study, divided into 10 classes. Out of 300 students, 40 were chosen randomly and divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. This made up the sample. Test writing instruments were employed. The test was used to gather information about the students' writing proficiency. The t-test was used to evaluate the data. The study's findings demonstrated that students' proficiency in writing paragraphs with authentic materials is greater to their proficiency with writing paragraphs without them. The mean scores of the students’ post-test who were taught using authentic materials were 76.55. However, the students' achievement on the post-test that was taught without the use of authentic materials had a mean score of 59.75. It can be stated, then, that teaching students with actual materials improves their ability to write paragraphs.

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (Classroom Action Research) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris pada siswa SMAN 9 Bulukumba melalui Implementasi Model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBL). Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik Kelas XI MIPA 2 UPT SMAN 9 Bulukumba tahun pelajaran 2019/2020 sebanyak 32 orang peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan tes, lembar observasi, dan tanggapan peserta didik yang diberikan pada proses pembelajaran. Prosedur penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus yaitu Siklus I dan Siklus II yang masing-masing dilaksanakan selama 4 kali pertemuan. Adapun tahapan prosedur penelitian ini yaitu: (a) Tahap perencanaan, (b) Tahap pelaksanaan, (c) Tahap observasi, dan (d) Tahap refleksi. Alat pengumpul data yang digunakan adalah tes akhir siklus I, tes akhir siklus II dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian setelah diimplementasikan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah yang diperoleh dari analisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif sebagai berikut: hasil belajar yang dilakukan selama dua siklus yang diidentifikasi bahwa pada siklus I sebesar 70,75 setelah dikategorisasikan berada dalam kategori sedang, dan mengalami peningkatan pada siklus II dengan skor rata-rata sebesar 78,5 dan setelah dikategorisasikan berada dalam kategori tinggi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa impelementasi model pembelajaran berbasis masalah merupakan salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris peserta didik, meningkatkan motivasi, keaktifan dan rasa tanggung jawab serta rasa percaya diri peserta didik selama proses belajar mengajar berlangsung. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa dengan implementasi model pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBL) dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar peserta didik kelas XI MIPA 2 UPT SMAN 9 Bulukumba
