Abstract

This study aims to determine the mathematical understanding ability of class XI MIA 2 students of SMA Negeri 1 Titehena on the topic of sequences and series using a realistic mathematical approach. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were class XI MIA students of SMA Negeri 1 Titehena. The data collection methods used were observation, unstructured interviews and written tests on contextual problems related to sequence and series material. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that most class XI MIA 2 students of SMAN 1 Titehena already had good mathematical understanding abilities. This can be seen from the students' ability to solve the problems given and work according to the procedure. However, there are some students who do not have a good mathematical understanding related to the steps in solving problems. They emphasize more on the feeling system

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this community service is to find and study the mathematical elements contained in the traditional game of paper puppets, which are made from photo-sized paper, using an ethnomathematics approach. This study focuses on visual symbols and game structures. The research method used is qualitative with a case study design. The data sources in this community service are children aged 6 to 12 years who actively play paper puppets. The selection of subjects was carried out by purposive sampling, namely selecting those who actively play paper puppets. The selection of subjects was carried out by purposive sampling, namely selecting children who have direct experience and a deep understanding of the puppet game. The objects of this community service include: paper puppets (both those made by children and old paper puppets that are still stored); the structure of the paper puppet game (including the rules of the game, interaction patterns, narratives, and movements that occur during the game); and symbols and motifs on the puppets (such as shapes, patterns, or other visual representations on the paper puppets or in the context of the game). The instruments used include observation guidelines (containing points that need to be observed during the puppet game process), interview guidelines (containing a list of questions to be asked to children), documentation (documenting visuals of paper puppets and the game environment. The results of this service show that the mathematical traces found in the puppet card game are Positive signs (+) and the shape of the ketupat; Repeating circles, Negative signs (-); Triangular slopes/arrow signs; Circles, units of measurement. Keywords: ethnomathematics; puppet cards; mathematical symbols and structures.
