Abstract

Writing scientific papers is a valuable skill that students must possess. However, most students continue to face challenges while writing scientific papers, such as a lack of knowledge of concepts and organization, difficulties articulating ideas in writing, and a lack of drive and interest. To address this, students at Madrasah Aliyah Tarbiyatus Shibyan Lamongan participated in community service activities to strengthen their scientific writing skills. This activity, which consisted of three parts (introduction, mentorship, and evaluation), improved students' understanding, skills, and motivation to write scientific papers. Time constraints are an impediment, thus schools should incorporate scientific writing development into the curriculum or extracurricular activities.

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is a key competency of the 21st century, but student achievement in Indonesia is still low. The research aims to describe the constructivism approach in fostering students' mathematical literacy. The research method is qualitative with the type of literature study through the review of reputable articles indexed by Science and Technology Index and Scopus and relevant scientific books. The results showed that students experienced obstacles in solving mathematical literacy problems, including difficulties in interpreting problems, modeling contextual problems, drawing conclusions according to context, and understanding relationships between concepts. The constructivism approach based on Piaget and Vygotsky's theories can overcome obstacles through active learning, where students build knowledge through interaction with the environment and social experiences. To foster mathematical literacy through constructivism approach, teachers need to apply three main principles, namely authentic principle, scaffolding principle, and reflective principle. The three principles form a complementary pedagogical framework for building deep conceptual understanding and mathematical problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Spatial reasoning ability is crucial in mathematics learning, particularly in three-dimensional geometry. However, its development faces various obstacles, including limited instructional media and teaching approaches that do not accommodate students' learning style diversity. This study aimed to examine the effect of learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) on junior high school students' spatial reasoning abilities. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was employed, involving 30 ninth-grade students from SMP Bustanul Hikmah Lamongan. Quantitative data were collected through learning style questionnaires and spatial reasoning tests covering spatial perception, spatial visualization, and spatial rotation. Qualitative data were obtained through observations and in-depth interviews with three selected subjects representing each learning style. Quantitative analysis using One-Way ANOVA revealed significant differences in spatial reasoning abilities based on learning styles . Kinesthetic students demonstrated the highest average scores, followed by visual and auditory students. Post Hoc Bonferroni tests indicated that both kinesthetic and visual learning styles were significantly more effective than auditory styles. Qualitative findings revealed distinct characteristics: auditory students relied on internal verbalization and struggled with complex visualizatio, visual students created detailed visual representations but were limited in dynamic transformations, kinesthetic students integrated physical gesture simulation with adaptive strategy flexibility. These findings suggest that geometry instruction should accommodate learning style diversity through varied instructional modalities, appropriate scaffolding, and compensatory strategy training. The use of technology such as virtual manipulatives, 3D animations, and augmented reality is recommended to optimize spatial reasoning development across all learning styles.

Abstract

This study explores ethnomathematics in Islamic local wisdom in Kemantren Village, Lamongan Regency, focusing on Islamic traditions surrounding the tomb of Maulana Ishaq. Using qualitative descriptive methods through observation and literature review, this study examines mathematical elements embedded in the architecture of Maulana Ishaq's tomb, Al-Abror Mosque, heritage sites, and the Islamic cultural practices that have developed in the village. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and literature analysis involving ten participants, including religious figures, mathematics teachers, tomb caretakers, and local residents. The research findings reveal that the Muslim community in Kemantren has preserved advanced mathematical understanding through religious and cultural traditions, particularly in the context of Islamic rituals and local religious practices. This study provides an integrative framework for embedding Islamic cultural ethnomathematics into mathematics pedagogy and cultural heritage preservation.

Abstract

One concrete step in improving students' mathematical competencies in modern education is through the application of interactive digital learning media. The GeoGebra Graphing Calculator application is an interactive and user-friendly digital learning tool. This research uses classroom action research. The subjects of this study are 20 students from class XI at MA Tarbiyatus Shibyan Lamongan. The classroom action research was conducted in two cycles. In each cycle, students were given worksheets on the topic of linear programming. In Cycle I, students completed the worksheets manually, while in Cycle II, students were introduced to the learning media and used the GeoGebra Graphing Calculator in completing the worksheets. The results obtained from this study using the T-Test (Paired Samples Statistic) show a p-value of ), indicating that the application of the GeoGebra Graphing Calculator in mathematics learning has an impact on improving students' mathematical competencies. Based on the average scores in each cycle, it is also evident that the use of the GeoGebra Graphing Calculator has an effect, as students' competencies improved from a moderate level with an average of 73.75% to a high level with an average of 89.06% after the application of the GeoGebra Graphing Calculator.

Abstract

Utilization of technology-based media in learning can build student independence so that the student learning experience will have more meaning. This research is aresearch on the development of mathematics learning media. The purpose of this research is to develop a valid and practical Canva Flash Matrix-based mathematics learning media as a mathematics learning medium on matrix material. The method in this study uses a development method based on the ADDIE development model. The subjects used in this study were 20 students of class XI MA Ibadurrochman. The resulting learning media is Canva-based media for material on the Matrix with a discussion of the types of Matrix and operations on the Matrix. Research data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed using validation analysis techniques, practicality, developed learning media. The results of the validation test and practicality test resulted in a valid and practical mathematics learning media to be used as a medium in learning based on the results of an assessment that met the criteria. The results of the assessment from the validation of media experts showed an average total score of 3.78. This shows that the media is valid for use in learning. In addition, the media also meets practical standards with an average practicality score of 3.70. Thus, the developed Flash Matrix media fulfills valid and practical aspects. Research also shows that the media can make students play an active role in observing the material presented, so that it can help teachers in the learning process and learning more effectively.
