Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This article tries to approach the conflict of Palestine through the novel Rsa'aytu Ramallah by Maorid Barghouti as seeking its parallel realities with historical facts. In so doing, the genetical components are to be analyzed by employing the Genetical Structaralism theory of Lucien Goldmann. The genetic of the novel can be seen in the parallelism between the literary facts and the socio-historical facts along the story. Thus, the novel not only comprises a mere fiction, but also along history of Palestine-Israel wars during the life of Barghouti. The author's worldview captures several crucial issues, such as the impacts of the war for Palestinians -mostly the immigrants among them-, the unstable politics that does not benefit the Palestinians interest, and gender iniquity which still exists in Palestine.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the meaning and use of the words Shirat and Tarāduf in the Qur'an with a semantic approach according to Toshihiko Izutsu. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study to analyze the words Shirāṭ and Tarāduf in the Qur'an, as well as data sources from the verses of the Qur'an and related references such as semantic books and Arabic dictionaries. Data collection techniques involve documentation studies and descriptive-analytical analysis, with a purposive sampling approach to select relevant samples to facilitate analysis. The results of the analysis show that shirāṭ refers to the straight path as the main spiritual guide, while Sabīl is more specific to the path related to charity and struggle in the way of Allah. Meanwhile, Ṭarīq tends to indicate the path in a physical or geographical context. Although these three terms are often considered synonymous, each has different nuances of meaning that reflect the Qur'anic worldview. This study provides a deeper understanding of how the Qur'an uses seemingly similar words to convey different moral and spiritual concepts. This is important for the study of Islamic linguistics and theology, as well as for Muslims in understanding the teachings of their holy book.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the Indonesian language on English usage among students in an English Education Study Program at a state university in Indonesia. The research aims to identify and analyze the forms of linguistic interference from the students’ first language (L1) in their English production, both written and spoken. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through student essays, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observations. The data were analyzed using an error analysis framework based on Corder’s model, focusing on lexical, syntactic, morphological, and semantic errors. The findings reveal a consistent pattern of negative transfer, in which students directly translate Indonesian structures into English without considering structural and pragmatic differences. This study contributes to the field of second language acquisition by highlighting the persistence of L1 interference in EFL contexts and emphasizing the need for contrastive, context-based teaching strategies. It also provides practical implications for English instructors in designing more responsive learning environments.

Abstract

Literature serves as a profound reflection of life, articulating values, emotions, and social criticism through aesthetic language. In the modern era, song lyrics have evolved into a potent medium for conveying ideological messages and challenging the status quo. This study investigates the song "Lil Waṭan" by Mashrou’ Leila, a prominent Lebanese alternative-rock band celebrated for their progressive stance on identity and politics. Unlike traditional patriotic anthems, "Lil Waṭan" offers a sharp counter-discourse, critiquing the manipulation of nationalist sentiment by authoritarian powers to suppress dissent. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method grounded in Claude Lévi-Strauss’s structuralist theory, this research analyzes the lyrics as a system of signs to uncover the underlying binary oppositions and social myths embedded within the text. The analysis reveals that the song’s structure is built upon deep tensions between the citizenry and the ruling authority, specifically manifesting through the binary oppositions of "love versus fear" and "genuine nationalism versus false nationalism." The findings demonstrate how the text exposes specific "patterns of silencing," including the use of propaganda to fabricate external conspiracies, the "anesthetization" of the public through ideological lethargy, and the deployment of mass entertainment—symbolized by the command to "dance"—as a distraction from political stagnation. By deconstructing these symbols, the study concludes that Mashrou’ Leila redefines patriotism not as blind submission, but as a critical consciousness that rejects the commodification of the "homeland" for social control. Ultimately, this research highlights how contemporary Arab music functions as a sophisticated literary site for political resistance and social critique
