Abstract

Internship is a media specifically provided by the Music of Arts Department University of HKBP Nommensen to facilitate students to have the opportunity to study outside the campus for one semester. One form of internship offered is student participation in music ministry in the church. There are two main aspects that students prepare before the internship is carried out, namely; musical and non-musical aspects. The final result of the internship is connection, collaboration, cooperation, and scientific implications. The implementation of the internship received a positive response from church leaders, congregations, music teams, multimedia teams, and sunday school teachers.

Abstract

Reading interest, numeracy skills, and English vocabulary mastery are essential aspects of elementary school students’ academic development. However, observations in Paropo 1 Village indicate that children still exhibit low reading habits, basic mathematical skills, and understanding of English vocabulary due to limited learning support outside of school. This community service program aims to improve reading interest, numeracy skills, and English vocabulary mastery through extracurricular tutoring. The methods used are qualitative descriptive approaches, including observation, interviews, documentation, and activity reflection. The program implementation includes reading guidance, basic mathematics instruction, English vocabulary teaching, literacy competitions, and homework as reinforcement. The results show increased learning enthusiasm, reading confidence, basic mathematics comprehension, and English vocabulary mastery among the children. This program is recommended to be implemented continuously with support from the village government, schools, and the community.
