Abstract

Particularly in tropical nations like Indonesia and Malaysia, oil palm plantations have grown to be a significant economic sector worldwide. Although these plantations offer substantial economic advantages, there are a number of environmental effects associated with their growth that must be taken into account. The ecological effects of oil palm plantations, such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and air and land pollution, are covered in this article. It also covers mitigation techniques, such the use of sustainable farming methods, ecosystem poisoning, and ecosystem restoration, to strike a balance between financial gains and environmental extinction. Without compromising its financial gains, the palm oil sector may grow in a more ecologically responsible way with the correct strategy.

Abstract

Cauliflower is a horticultural crop widely sought after by the public as a side dish. Cultivation techniques are one of the challenges faced by farmers today. One way to improve the cultivation system is through balanced fertilization, and the appropriate combination of fertilizer doses will restore plant productivity to be better. This study aims to determine the growth and yield of cauliflower as affected by a combination of chicken manure and NPK fertilizer. This study was conducted in Talang Jambe, Sukarame District, Palembang, South Sumatra, during the end of the dry season in June to August. This study used a Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of 12 treatments with 3 replications and 3 replications per treatment. The first factor consists of chicken manure fertilizer: 437.50 g/plant (A1); 656.25 g/plant (A2); 875 g/plant (A3); and the second factor consists of NPK fertilizer: control (N0), 10 g/plant (N1), 15 g/plant (N2),  20 g/plant (N3). The results of this study indicate that the combination of chicken manure and NPK fertilizer can increase the growth and yield of cauliflower plants. The application of chicken manure fertilizer with treatment A2= 656.25 g/plant and NPK fertilizer treatment, namely N2 = 15 g/plant, gave the best average results on the commercial fresh weight of cauliflower plants.
