Abstract

This study aimed at describing psychopathy symptoms of Kevin and at finding the factor causing Kevin become psychopath. This study was about individuals who were had psychopathy. The approach used in this research was a psychological approach and psychopathy theory to answer the research problem. This study used descriptive qualitative method.The result of this study indicates that there are five symptoms of psychopathy found in Kevin that are conning/manipulation, callous/lack of empathy, lack of remorse/guilt, impulsive, and irresponsible. Meanwhile, the factor causing Kevin becomes psychopath is parenting factor, because of the disapproval of a mother, namely Eva, in accepting Kevin’s presence while in her womb, then the way she adopted and educated Kevin so Kevin become naughty and committed criminal acts

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan jenis-jenis konflik dan jenis-jenis motivasi dalam film Five Feet Apart yang disutradarai oleh Justin Baldoni. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan psikologi karena penelitian ini berkaitan dengan konflik dan motivasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat enam jenis dari konflik dan dua jenis dari motivasi yang tergambar dari Stella. Pertama, membahas tentang jenis-jenis konflik antara lain yaitu man vs. man, man vs. society, man vs. self, man vs. fate or God, dan yang terahkir adalah man vs. technology. Kedua, adalah jenis-jenis dari motivasi yaitu intrinsic motivation dan extrinsic motivation. Dari data diatas dapat disimpulkan bahwa penulis menemukan jenis-jenis konflik yang terjadi pada tokoh utama dalam film Five Feet Apart. Hasil penelitian tersebut menunjukan man vs. man terdapat delapan data, man vs. society terdapat dua data, man vs. nature terdapat satu data, man vs. self terdapat dua data, man vs. fate or God terdapat satu data, man vs. technology terdapat delapan data. Sedangkan dari jenis-jenis motivasi, extrinsic motivation terdapat empat data dan intrinsic motivation terdapat empat data.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the aspects of American Individualism as reflected in Gardner as the main character in film The Pursuit of Happiness. This film directed by Gabriele Muccino which the story is taken from the real life by an author named Chris Gardner. This film raises issues in social life, especially in the main character Chris Gardner regarding aspects of American individualism. This research used descriptive-qualitative method. In this research conducted stages of research in collecting the data, they are: first, watching the film carefully, writing the data on utterance and actions in accordance with the problem formulation and then identifying utterance and actions. This study used the theory of Emerson (1941) about self-confidence and self-reliance. The results showed that there were three forms of self-confidence (personal ability, self-concept and social interaction) and self-reliance (responsibility). The aspect of individualism experienced by Chris Gardner is to show the community and every individual about the struggle and hard work that requires self-reliance and self-confidence. Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the types of common grammatical errors are found in the students’ writing and finding out the dominant type of common grammatical errors found in students’ writing. This study used descriptive qualitative and quantitative method. The data were taken from the 21 compositions of students who took Basic Writing Class in English Letter Study Program, Faculty of Language and Literature of Flores University. Each writing has three kinds of writing. They are about family member, individual favorite object, and natural objects descriptions. The upshots of the study indicates there are 9,1% students who made errors in verb tense, 12,6% students who made errors in subject-verb agreement, 15,3% students made error in article, 4,5% students made error in preposition, 6,3% students made error in number, 4,5% students made error in pronoun, 1,8% students made error in possessive, 1,8% students made in word choice, 11,7% students made error in spelling, 19,8% students made error in word order, 7,2% students made error in capitalization, and 5,4% students made error in punctuation. The errors are caused from many factors; the students are still confused to choose the right word in a sentence because of the lack of knowledge or poor vocabularies and its use. Besides, errors happened because of their first language (Indonesian logical thinking), or we could say the learners’ mother tongue interference (interlingua source), some students tried to translate the words one by one from Indonesian language into English without paying attention to the English structure rules.

Abstract

The current study was intended to find out Sayuri’s adolescence development in Arthur Golden Memoirs of a Geisha and the influences of peers towards Sayuri’s adolescence in Arthur Golden Memoirs of a Geisha. This study used descriptive qualitative method. In analysing the data, some steps were adopted by by classifying and explaining the data based on the theories, and paraphrasing and analysing the quotations related to the problems. Based on the data analysis, there are three aspects of getting her personality, namely searching for identity; the adolescence rebellion; adolescent sexuality. The influence of peers based on two aspects, namely the relationship between peers and the interaction between peers. In their relationship, peers influence how to talk, dress, and be as a perfect woman. In their interaction, the influences occurred to build up the attitude and personality.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to find out kinds of supernatural power experienced by the main character and find out the differences and similarities of supernatural in both of films. The research design was qualitative research method. This research used theory of Supernatural Power by Jonathan C. Smith and theory of Comparative Study by Robert John Clemens. The data were in the form of utterances and actions. The type of data used in this study consists of two films. The result shows that there are five kinds of supernatural power as seen in Wonder Woman film and Captain Marvel film. Kinds of supernatural power find in Wonder Woman film are telekinesis or psychokinesis, telepathy, and sixth sense while in Captain Marvel film; the kinds of supernatural power are telekinesis and retro cognition. Meanwhile, the similarities found are, plot, genre, and history and literary criticism. On the other hand, the differences found are, movement and generation, theme, and myth

Abstract

This study aimed at finding the characteristics of the characters in Sophocles' Drama Oedipus Rex, as well as to deconstruct the characterization of the characters that have been found and brought out the other side of the characteristics of each character. Descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data in this study. The data were analyzed by reading and selecting data from the utterances in the drama dialogue. Then the data were analyzed using deconstruction theory on the characterization of the characters in the drama. The theory used was the deconstruction theory discovered by Jacques Derrida. The result of the analysis shows that firstly, the characters are Oedipus, Jocasta, Creon, and Tiresias. Each character has characteristics. Oedipus has the characteristics of being wise, brave, and is also a helpful figure. Jocasta is a kind character, Creon is a fair figure, and Tiresias is a wise figure. However, after being deconstructed, each characteristic has opposite characteristics so that the other side can be revealed. Oedipus is characterized as a silly, a coward, and a betrayer figure. Jocasta has bad characteristics. Meanwhile, Creon has unfair characteristics, and Tiresias has a selfish characteristic.

Abstract

In this study, the writer analyzed the plot comparison in two literary works, namely the novel and the film Little Women. The purpose of this study is to found out the differences, similarities and parallels between the two literary works. The method used by the writer in this study is qualitative research. This study used the first theory from Drs. Meiliana Sylvie explained about comparative literature. Secondly, the writer used Shiquan Cao's theory that explained about the parallel. This study was conducted to found out the similarities, differences and parallel plots in the two literary works. The study focused on the plot in the story.The results of this study show that between the novel and the film Little Women have similarities and differences, namely exposition / equilibrum, rising action / distrubtion, climax / recognition, falling action / repair and resolution / equilibrum again, and also parallel, namely, parallel in differences, narrative and character. This study will identify important elements in the plot present in both works, and compare how the plot is presented and interpreted in the form of novels and films. This undergraduate thesis thus provides a more in-depth look at the way the two media convey the same story in different ways.

Abstract

People with sadistic personalities or mental disorders can be seen from their attitude and behavior. The sadistic nature depicted in a person's life is his bad behavior. The descriptive method of analysis was carried out by describing the sadistic personality disorder played by Patrick Bateman in the American psycho film, namely the characters and the causes of sadistic personality disorder that are described by the main character. The author uses a qualitative descriptive method, to describe a person's behavior and actions as data in analyzing the problem formulation. This study aims to find the sadistic personality disorder described by Patrick Bateman including the characters and triggering factors in the American Psycho film. Data is taken in the form of phrases, sentences and paragraphs. The approach used by the author is a psychological approach that is concerned with sadistic personality disorder. The research results show that there are three types of characters, namely the mad scientists, the schemer of court, and the trickster. Abstract

The aims of this study were to find the elements of feminist leadership and how the influence effects of feminist leadership that arise in the development of Queen Ingrith's character in the film "Maleficent : Mistress of Evil" directed by Joachim Rønning. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data was taken from the film Maleficent : Mistress of Evil in the form of words, phrases, utterances, conversation and action. The approach used was feminism because this study related to feminism values.The result of this study shows that there are four elements of feminist leadership and four influence effects that arise from Queen Ingrith’s character in this film. The first are elements of feminist leadership which include power, principles and values, politics and purpose, and the last is practice. The second is the influence effect that emerges from Queen Ingrith's character, namely, influence suits our leadership style, influence can be actively cultivated, influence is a tool for the times,and influence creates a new way to work. From the data above, it could be concluded that Queen Ingrith has two sides of leadership,namely female leadership and male leadership.
