Abstract

One of the ways to avoid miscommunication is to pronounce the words correctly. Unfortunately, pronunciation is one of the English aspects that are difficult to learn and teach. The research’s objectives are to know and analyze how the YouTube Music application could improve the eighth grade students’ pronunciation mastery at SMP Negeri 56 Palembang and to find out the causes of the students’ pronunciation problems. It was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 3 ways of collecting data i.e. test, observation, and questionnaire. It was conducted for class 8.5 at SMP Negeri 56 Palembang. The research reached the successful criteria in the third cycle i.e. 80% of the students reached the KKM. The results showed that by doing the drilling technique, asking the students to sing the song together in some groups, and choosing the appropriate songs e.g. the songs that are viral or happening in the pronunciation classroom activities, the student’s enthusiasm and pronunciation mastery got higher. The lack of exposure to English, the lack of motivation to study English pronunciation, and some English sounds that are hard to pronounce because students do not find them in their native, are the three causes of the students’ pronunciation problems.

Abstract

Mastery of grammar is a fundamental component of English language acquisition, particularly in understanding countable and uncountable nouns, which frequently pose challenges for junior high school students in producing grammatically accurate sentences. Students’ difficulties in applying appropriate quantifiers, articles, and plural forms demonstrate that this grammatical area has not yet been comprehensively mastered. In response to this issue, the present study examined the effectiveness of direct and indirect learning strategies in enhancing students’ comprehension of countable and uncountable nouns. Employing a quantitative, quasi-experimental design, the study involved two experimental groups of 30 students each. Data were gathered using pre- and post-test instruments and subsequently analyzed using statistical tests, tests of normality and homogeneity, and paired and independent-samples t-tests. The findings indicated that both groups demonstrated statistically significant improvement following the treatments, as reflected in increased mean scores and paired-sample t-test results with p-values below 0.05. Nevertheless, the independent-samples t-test revealed no statistically significant difference between the two instructional approaches, as the p-value exceeded 0.05, suggesting that both direct and indirect learning strategies were comparably effective in improving students’ grammatical understanding. These results imply that integrating both approaches may enhance students’ grammar mastery while also providing teachers with greater pedagogical flexibility in classroom instruction. Consequently, educators are recommended to implement a balanced combination of instructional strategies to achieve more optimal learning outcomes

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the use of the online learning platform Quizizz in the vocabulary development of junior high school students. The primary focus is to evaluate the effectiveness of Quizizz as a learning tool in enhancing English vocabulary mastery. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design involving two groups of students: an experimental group using Quizizz and a control group using traditional methods. The results indicate that students who used Quizizz showed a significant improvement in vocabulary acquisition compared to those in the control group. These findings suggest that the use of Quizizz not only increases student engagement but also positively impacts their academic achievement in vocabulary learning. The study recommends integrating Quizizz as part of vocabulary teaching strategies in junior high schools. This study aims to analyse the use of the online learning platform Quizizz in the vocabulary development of junior high school students. Abstract

Integrated assessment is increasingly recognized as an essential component in language education, especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings. Unlike traditional assessments that isolate language skills, integrated assessment combines two or more skills in meaningful tasks that reflect authentic language use. This article investigates the role of integrated assessment in enhancing language skills development through a literature review and qualitative classroom-based study. The findings suggest that integrated assessment not only promotes communicative competence but also supports critical thinking, learner autonomy, and engagement. The paper highlights practical strategies for implementing integrated assessment and provides recommendations for educators and policymakers.

Abstract

This study explores the role of families, particularly those from low socioeconomic backgrounds, in supporting students' readiness and performance in the assessment process. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with parents, focus group discussions with teachers and counselors, and document analysis of school policies related to assessment preparation. The findings reveal that while families face various challenges such as limited educational resources, time constraints, and digital barriers they nonetheless exhibit a strong willingness to be involved in their children's academic success. Emotional support, monitoring of academic progress, and informal learning at home emerged as common forms of involvement. However, the study also highlights a lack of structured, culturally responsive, and sustainable engagement practices from schools. To enhance student outcomes in assessments, the study recommends that schools develop inclusive communication strategies, provide digital and assessment literacy support for parents, and implement community-based partnership models. The research emphasizes that meaningful school-family collaboration is essential to fostering equitable assessment readiness for all students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The low level of elementary school students’ mastery of English grammatical structures, particularly comparative degrees, indicates the need for the implementation of more interactive and student-centered learning strategies. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies in improving students’ understanding of comparative degrees among fifth-grade students at Fathona Islamic School Palembang. The study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test and post-test non-equivalent control group model, involving 30 students who were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received instruction through cooperative learning strategies, while the control group was taught using conventional teaching methods. The results of the analysis showed that the average post-test score of the experimental group (85.4) was higher than that of the control group (72.8). An independent samples t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05). In addition to improving learning outcomes, cooperative learning was also found to enhance students’ active engagement in discussions and group work. These findings conclude that cooperative learning strategies are effective in improving students’ understanding of comparative degrees while also strengthening motivation and active participation in English language learning at the elementary school level.
