Abstract

The phenomenon of a husband being abandoned by his wife without clarity is a complex issue that rarely receives attention, despite having a significant impact on the lives of individuals and families. This condition is known as ambiguous loss, a loss without certainty that causes emotional confusion and difficulty in the adaptation process. This study aims to understand the impact experienced by abandoned husbands and to examine the role of pastoral counseling assistance in supporting the recovery process. This study employs a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation of the research subjects. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the impacts experienced encompass psychological, social, and economic dimensions. Psychologically, the subject experienced anxiety, grief, confusion, and a tendency toward mild depression. Social impacts were reflected in changes in relationships with the surrounding environment and the emergence of dual roles within the family, while economic impacts were marked by a decline in work productivity. In addition, the child also experienced emotional disturbances due to the loss of the mother figure. Pastoral counseling assistance has proven to play an important role in helping individuals cope with such conditions through a holistic approach that encompasses emotional, relational, and spiritual dimensions. By employing client-centered and rational-emotive approaches, pastoral counseling is able to help counselees manage their emotions, develop more rational thinking patterns, and rediscover the meaning of life amid uncertainty.

Abstract

Youth face complex psychosocial challenges amid rapid social, economic, and technological changes. One key strategy for addressing these challenges is strengthening resilience, particularly spiritual resilience. Spiritual resilience refers to an individual’s ability to endure and recover from life’s difficulties through the power of faith, life meaning, and spiritual values. This study aims to examine the concept of spiritual resilience in youth through a cognitive-behavioral psychology (CBT) approach using a literature review method. The analysis draws upon various scholarly sources that explore the relationship between CBT mechanisms and the development of spirituality. The findings indicate that integrating CBT with spiritual values, including within a Christian context, can enhance youth’s mental endurance, assist in restructuring negative cognitions, and support mental health and spiritual growth. This approach offers a holistic and contextual intervention framework to help youth more effectively cope with stress, anxiety, and identity crises.

Abstract

This study examines the Mane'e culture in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, as a biocentric pastoral expression rooted in maritime local wisdom. Utilizing an ethnopastoral approach and qualitative-ethnographic interpretive methods, this study systematically examines three main dimensions of Mane'e culture: (1) ritual structure and its implementation procedures; (2) the content of biocentric ecological values; and (3) the theological-pastoral dimension articulated through these communal practices. The analysis shows that Mane'e culture is not merely an economic subsistence activity, but rather a living theological text that reveals the relational cosmology of the Talaud people a cosmology that places humans, marine ecosystems, communities, and the Creator in an inseparable relationship. This culture explains the principles of biocentrism within an authentic ethno-religious framework and can be a source of contextual pastoral ecological theology for churches in the Indonesian archipelago. Four principles of biocentric pastoralism are formulated: holistic relationality, ecological communality, ecological rituality, and intergenerational wisdom. This study contributes to the increasingly urgent discourse on contextual pastoral theology and ecotheology amidst the ecological crisis of Indonesia's coastal and archipelagic regions.
