Abstract

This study aims to identify exisiting condition of nature-based tourism, community participation and formulate strategic directions for its future development. A qualitative approach was adopted, involving in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including tourism industry representatives, local communities, and academics. The findings highlight two primary themes in nature-based tourism development, namely: terrestrial and marine tourism. However, the integration and implementation of these themes remain inadequate, leading to limited destination competitiveness. Moreover, the community participation in creating nature based tourism product is still low as well. To address this issue, this study proposes a theoretical model for enhancing the development of nature-based tourism. The novelty of this research lies in the strategic positioning of core and supporting themes within the product positioning framework, enhancing the region’s competitive edge in the nature tourism sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the practices of community-based tourism development, the level of community participation and to formulate a collaborative development model to strengthen its management system. A qualitative approach with a case study design is employed. The researcher conducted observations of community-based tourism practices, in-depth interviews with local residents and a review of relevant literature. The collected data will be analysed using a descriptive qualitative method. The data will be reduced, verified, and concluded based on the analysis carried out. The research findings indicate that although there is considerable potential for adventure tourism, there are still significant shortcomings in its development. Therefore, a collaborative development pathway is needed to enhance the management system in the future, so as to generate meaningful social implications for the local community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze local community participation in the development of ecotourism. The method used is descriptive qualitative based on document analysis, with data obtained through the review of village planning documents, tourism development reports, field observations, and informal interviews with local stakeholders. The results show that the community has begun to engage in tourism-related activities such as opening homestays, food stalls, and working as tour guides. However, this involvement is still limited by capacity, skills, and the lack of supporting facilities. Neblo Beach holds great potential to be developed as a nature- and culture-based ecotourism destination, but it currently lacks basic amenities such as toilets, trash bins, souvenir kiosks, and photo spots. Through a SWOT analysis, several strategies were identified to support the development of this area, including the participatory preparation of a master plan for amenity development, community training programs, and collaboration with academics and investors. In conclusion, the success of ecotourism development at Neblo Beach strongly depends on the synergy between the community, village government, and strategic partners in realizing sustainable tourism that provides direct benefits to the local population
