Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited familiarity of students in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) with kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts) and the urgent need to reform pesantren systems in order to remain relevant within the dynamics of modern education. The main issue addressed is how to build effective synergy between pesantren curricula and university academic curricula to reduce this intellectual competency gap. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method at Pesantren Luhur Sabilussalam, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the implementation of the “Four Pillars of Innovation” includes four main components, namely (1) the hybrid identity of mahasantri (student-santri), (2) an integrated curriculum based on the Semester Credit System (SKS), (3) hybrid pedagogy through the integration of bandongan and discussion-based learning, and (4) an egalitarian leadership ecosystem. These components have proven effective in improving academic achievement and enhancing mastery of kitab kuning. The distinctive feature of this model lies in the dual role of the kiai as both pesantren leader and university academic. In conclusion, the student pesantren model offers a strategic solution to strengthen intellectual competence and character development within Islamic higher education. This study recommends the adoption of a flexible yet structured curriculum integration model for Islamic university students more broadly. This study is motivated by the limited familiarity of students in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) with kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts) and the urgent need to reform pesantren systems in order to remain relevant within the dynamics of modern education. Abstract

This study examines financial literacy in the context of poverty by focusing on the negotiation between state policies and local values within poor communities. Financial literacy is often positioned as a neutral and technocratic instrument to enhance welfare and financial inclusion. However, such an approach frequently overlooks socio-cultural dimensions, power relations, and local economic practices that shape the lived experiences of poverty. This study employs a qualitative approach through a critical literature review of national and international publications from 2020 to 2025, including Scopus- and SINTA-indexed journals as well as relevant policy documents. The analysis is conducted thematically to explore how financial literacy is constructed within state policies, the role of local values, and the forms of negotiation, adaptation, and resistance exhibited by poor communities toward financial literacy programs. The findings indicate that financial literacy has ambivalent effects: while it can enhance financial awareness and access to formal financial services, it may also weaken social solidarity and transform community-based moral economies. Poor communities are not passive recipients of policy interventions but demonstrate agency through the reinterpretation of economic practices and symbolic resistance to individualistic approaches. This study highlights the importance of a policy anthropology perspective in designing culturally sensitive and contextually grounded financial literacy policies as part of sustainable poverty alleviation efforts.

Abstract

The development of social media, especially Instagram, has driven a paradigm shift in global tourism practices, from physical experiences to digitally curated visual experiences. One manifestation of this change is the emergence of the phenomenon of Instagrammable tourism, a tourism trend based on visual aesthetics that encourages tourists to choose destinations not only because of cultural or natural values, but also because of their shareable visual appeal. This study aims to systematically and critically examine the literature that discusses destination visualization in the context of social media, especially Instagram, with a focus on the construction of meaning, aesthetic curation, and its implications for tourist behavior and destination branding strategies. Using a literature study approach, this article identifies six main themes: the conceptualization of Instagrammable tourism, visual representation of destinations, digital aesthetics and visual culture, the influence of content on tourist intentions and loyalty, social media-based branding strategies, and the ethical and ecological impacts of visual dominance. The results of the study show that destination visualization not only shapes tourist perceptions but also forms new norms in tourism consumption and space production. On the other hand, excessive aestheticization also presents serious challenges such as the overcommodification of local culture, loss of authenticity, and ecological pressures due to digital overtourism. This study suggests the need for a sustainable, contextual and ethical visual approach in social media-based tourism development.
