Abstract

Edamame (Glycine max L. Merill.) merupakan tanaman potensial untuk dikembangkan. Kebutuhan edamame terus meningkat sehingga diperlukan upaya untuk meningkatkan produksinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis optimasi jarak tanam dan pemupukan NPK terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman edamame. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Faktorial (RAKF), dengan 2 faktor terdiri dari jarak tanam dan pemupukan NPK. Perlakuan jarak tanam terdapat 3 taraf yaitu 30 cm x 20 cm, 25 cm x 15 cm dan 20 cm x 10 cm x 40 cm. Perlakuan pemupukan NPK terdapat 3 taraf yaitu 300 kg/ha, 350 kg/ha dan 400 kg/ha. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jarak tanam 20 cm x 15 cm berbeda nyata pada tinggi tanaman, jumlah bintil akar, berat tajuk, berat akar, jumlah polong, berat polong per tanaman. Perlakuan jarak tanam 20 x 15 cm dengan pemupukan NPK 300 kg/ha dapat meningkatkan berat polong sebesar 25.67%.

Abstract

Sugarcane is a key plantation crop and the primary source of sugar in Indonesia. However, over the past decade, rising demand has not been matched by domestic production, which has continued to decline. Improving productivity can be achieved through the use of high-quality seed. However, farmers face limited access as supply from sugar mill networks is scarce. Interest in self-producing seed remains low due to limited awareness of its comparable economic benefits to cane cultivation for milling. This study aims to assess the efficiency of seed cane production in Balung District, Jember Regency, and to identify sustainable strategies for developing an independent sugarcane seed production system at the farmer level. The results are expected to provide recommendations for farmers on improving the availability and quality of self-produced seed, serving as a reference for decision-making in developing a more efficient and sustainable sugarcane seed propagation system. The research was conducted from January to March 2025 in Balung Sub-district, Jember Regency, involving a single farmer as the primary respondent, who manages a seed production area of 1.125 hectares. Observed variables included total cost, revenue, profit, and financial efficiency parameters, such as the R/C ratio, B/C ratio, Break-Even Point (BEP), and sensitivity analysis. Data were analyzed using farm business and financial efficiency analysis methods. The results showed that bud-set sugarcane seed production is feasible and profitable, with a total cost of IDR 36,740,000.00/ha, a projected revenue of IDR 50,400,000.00/ha, and a profit of IDR 13,660,000.00 per hectare, assuming a 1:7 multiplication ratio. The R/C ratio was 1.38, and the return on investment (ROI) reached 138%. BEP and sensitivity analyses also indicated that the business remains efficient even under price fluctuations or increased production costs. It is recommended that local stakeholders support farmer training and seed certification to encourage wider adoption of independent seed production.

Abstract

Analysis of coffee's organoleptic quality is a crucial step in the development of high-quality coffee products. The organoleptic quality of coffee can influence consumer preference and satisfaction with coffee products. This study aims to analyze the level of preference for Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) brews at various roasting levels. This study uses one factor, namely the roasting level of Arabica cork coffee beans (S), which consists of four levels: S1 = light roasting, S2 = medium roasting, S3 = medium-dusting, and S4 = dark roasting. The parameters observed were color, aroma, and flavor. The results of the study on the level of preference for Arabica coffee showed that different roasting levels can affect the level of preference for Arabica coffee brews. The results of the organoleptic test showed that coffee with medium-dark maturity was more preferred by the panelists compared to light, medium, and dark. The results of this study can be used as a reference for the coffee industry to improve the quality and preference of Arabica coffee.

Abstract

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is a strategic source of plant-based protein and an industrial raw material in Indonesia; however, national and local production in Jember Regency has declined in recent years, while fertilizer costs continue to rise. This study aims to evaluate the agronomic and economic effects of combining guano and KCL fertilizers on peanut growth, yield components, biomass, and partial farm profitability under smallholder conditions in East Java. A field experiment was conducted from July to October 2025 in Krajan, Slawu, Patrang District, using a 4×2 factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications on peanut variety Katana 2. The treatments consisted of four guano rates (0, 5, 10, and 15 ton/ha) and two KCL rates (75 and 100 kg/ha), applied one week before sowing, followed by standard NPK fertilization and recommended crop management practices. Growth traits (plant height, leaf stalk number, branch number), yield components (sound and empty pods, pod and seed weight, 100‑seed weight), and biomass were subjected to two-way ANOVA and DMRT. Guano significantly increased branch number, whereas 100 kg/ha KCL improved sound pods and biomass; however, most yield variables did not differ statistically, making the low-input package without guano and 75 kg/ha KCL the option with the highest partial gross margin. The findings indicate that optimizing guano–KCL combinations can support cost-efficient and more sustainable fertilizer management in peanut agribusiness and agro-industrial supply chains in Indonesia.

Abstract

Genetic purity in hybrid maize is essential to ensure the stable combination of parental genetic materials, which underpins heterosis and on-field hybrid performance. Conventional field-based tests for assessing hybrid purity are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and less efficient compared to molecular marker-based approaches. Alternatively, DNA-based markers such as simple sequence repeats (SSRs) provide a feasible alternative. DNA-based markers assay requires the DNA extraction method that produces sufficient amount and quality of DNA. Therefore, this study compared three extraction methods—SDS-based, CTAB-based, and a commercial DNA extraction kit—using leaf tissue from maize seedlings as the DNA source. The extracted DNA samples were assessed for yield, quality, and suitability for SSR-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays. Results demonstrated that all three methods successfully produced DNA of adequate quality and quantity for SSR-PCR analysis. These findings confirm the applicability of multiple extraction techniques for molecular based hybrid purity testing. The study contributes practical guidance for optimizing DNA extraction in maize, supporting the broader adoption of molecular markers in hybrid breeding programs.
