Abstract

Biology learning in secondary schools often lacks contextual integration with local ecosystems, particularly in coastal areas. This study aimed to analyze the needs for biology learning strategies based on coastal local wisdom in Pasuruan from the perspective of SMA/MA students. A descriptive quantitative design with a gap analysis approach was employed involving 60 students selected through purposive sampling from SMA/MA schools in coastal Pasuruan. Data were collected using a validated gap analysis questionnaire of 35 items across six dimensions: teaching methods (D1), content contextualization (D2), learning resources (D3), outdoor learning (D4), local wisdom integration (D5), and assessment practices (D6). Findings revealed significant gaps across all dimensions between current conditions (overall mean = 2.33) and desired conditions (overall mean = 4.51), yielding an overall gap score of 2.18. The highest gap was found in D5-local wisdom integration (gap = 2.59), followed by D4-outdoor learning (gap = 2.38), and D2-content contextualization (gap = 2.32). The D1-teaching methods dimension recorded the lowest gap (gap = 1.49). These findings demonstrate a critical need for developing contextually grounded biology learning strategies that systematically embed coastal ecosystem knowledge and local wisdom of the Pasuruan community into secondary school biology instruction

Abstract

Learning requires an intermediary to help students understand the material being studied. This study aims to determine student perceptions related to the urgency of using learning media in learning biology material. This research uses a survey method. The survey was conducted to undergraduate Biology Education Study Program students in semesters 2, 4, 6, and 8. The subjects of this study were taken from students who had not, were and had received learning media development courses. Students were given questionnaires online. Based on the research conducted, the results show that 61.5% of students strongly agree that biology learning uses learning media. In addition, 59% of students think that by using learning media students have more learning experiences. These results show that undergraduate students of Biology Education ITSNU Pasuruan already have an awareness that the use of learning media in learning biology material is very important.

Abstract

Revitalisasi taman/pojok baca di Desa Jatiarjo bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat baca dan literasi masyarakat, terutama anak-anak. Dalam era digital saat ini, ketergantungan kepada gadget sangat mengurangi minat baca di kalangan anak-anak. Melalui program pengabdian masyarakat ini, taman/pojok baca yang sebelumnya tidak aktif direvitalisasi dengan memperbaiki sarana fisik, menyediakan koleksi buku yang bervariasi, dan melibatkan masyarakat dalam pengelolaan taman/pojok baca. Kegiatan berkelanjutan seperti kelas membaca dan lomba cerita juga diadakan untuk menarik minat baca. Hasil dari program pengabdian masyarakat ini meunjukkan peningkatan pengunjung taman/pojok baca dan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya literasi. Denmgan kolaborasi antara masyarakat, sekolah, dan organisasi non-pemerintah, diharapkan taman/pojok baca dapat menjadi pusat aktivitas literasi yang berkelanjutan di Desa Jatiarjo.
