Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is caused by hormonal imbalances that trigger lower abdominal pain, which may radiate to the suprapubic region, lower back, medial thighs, and perineum. Dysmenorrhea typically occurs 1–2 days before or during menstruation, causing disruptions in concentration and increased anxiety. Non-pharmacological management of dysmenorrhea with SJKT (Lemongrass, Ginger, Turmeric, Curcuma Xanthorrhiza) formulations, containing gingerol, shogaol, essential oils, flavonoids, polyphenols, and curcumin exerts analgesic effects that are effective in reducing pain. To analyze the effectiveness of SJKT formulations in reducing menstrual pain associated with dysmenorrhea. A true experimental design with a two-group pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The intervention group received SJKT formulations, while the control group consumed young coconut water, 300 ml/day for 4 days. The Wilcoxon test for the intervention group yielded a p-value of 0.001, while the control group had a p-value of 0.157. The Mann-Whitney test produced a p-value of 0.022, showing a significant difference between the two groups, as the SJKT formulation is more effective in reducing dysmenorrhea pain compared to young coconut water. SJKT formulation effectively reduces dysmenorrhea pain. Further studies could involve larger samples for more comprehensive results.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the storytelling approach as a psychosocial therapy on postpartum maternal depression and anxiety levels. The method used is quasi-experimental design with one pretest-posttest control group design with 60 respondent. The results of the study show that before the intervention, based on the EPDS the highest score was 19 (moderate-high depression risk category) and after the intervention the highest score decreased to 13 (mild category). Meanwhile, for anxiety before the intervention, based on the STAI, the highest score was 67 (high anxiety category) and after the intervention the highest score reduced to 54 (approaching the moderate category). The results showed a significant decrease in depression scores (p < 0.05) and anxiety (p < 0.05) in the intervention group compared to the control group. In conclusion, storytelling is effective as a psychosocial therapy in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety in postpartum mothers.   Keywords: Postpartum, Psychosocial Therapy, Storytelling, Maternal Mental Health

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period of emotional development, particularly among adolescent girls who experience hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle. These hormonal changes may trigger emotional instability, thus requiring effective emotion regulation strategies. Menstrual phase based mindfulness is considered a contextual approach to enhance adolescents’ emotional intelligence. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of menstrual phase based mindfulness interventions on the emotional intelligence of adolescent girls. A quantitative method with a quasi-experimental pre–posttest with control group design was conducted among 60 students at Muhammadiyah 1 Vocational High School in Malang. The research instrument used was the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Adolescent Short Form (TEIQue-ASF). The intervention group received mindfulness practices tailored to the menstrual phase, including body scan during menstruation, grounding during the follicular phase, and journaling during the luteal phase, while the control group was only given aromatherapy. Data were analyzed using the paired t-test. The results showed that emotional intelligence scores significantly increased in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The greatest improvement occurred in the follicular phase (103.6 ± 7.8 to 116.3 ± 6.9), followed by the luteal phase (99.8 ± 8.6 to 110.7 ± 7.8), ovulation phase (104.1 ± 7.5 to 114.2 ± 7.1), and menstruation phase (102.4 ± 8.2 to 111.6 ± 7.5). These findings demonstrate that menstrual phase–based mindfulness effectively improves emotional intelligence in adolescent girls, particularly during the follicular phase, and has the potential to be developed as a promotive-preventive program in schools to support adolescent mental health.

Abstract

The use of maladaptive coping mechanisms frequently becomes the reason behind adolescents failure to resolve a problem or manage their sources of stress effectively. This can lead to mental health disorders among adolescents. The use of coping mechanisms in adolescents can be influenced by various factors, one of which is their level of emotional intelligence. The aims of this study was to analyze the correlation between the level of emotional intelligence and coping mechanisms among high school students at SMA Negeri 1 Singosari. This study employed a quantitative observational research method with a cross-sectional approach involving 110 twelfth-grade high school students as respondents. Data were collected in November 2024 using total sampling. The instruments used were The Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) and Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory (Brief COPE) questionnaires. The analysis was conducted using the Gamma test. A total of 93 respondents (84.5%) exhibited a moderate level of emotional intelligence, dominated by the aspect of managing emotions. Additionally, 104 respondents (94.5%) demonstrated adaptive coping mechanisms, with most using problem-focused coping strategies. There is significant correlation between the level of emotional intelligence and coping mechanisms (p = -0.943).

Abstract

Postpartum anxiety and depression are common mental health problems in postpartum mothers, especially when there is a challenge of low family support (neglectful family). Postpartum mothers who are neglected by their families are 20% more at risk of experiencing anxiety and 13% more at risk of experiencing postpartum depression compared to mothers who receive family care. Suboptimal family support can exacerbate psychological symptoms and hinder mother-infant bonding. The purpose of this study was to develop the TelenursaMoms application, a digital platform that is easily accessible at any time to assess family function and maternal psychological health, as well as provide initial management for postpartum mothers with neglectful challenges. The study used a quasi-experimental pre-post test with a control group design with 80 postpartum mothers who met the inclusion criteria. The instruments used were the Family Functioning and Cohesion Scale (FFCS) and the Postpartum Mother Assessment Tool (ASIPP). Data analysis used ANCOVA. After adjusting for pre-test scores, ANCOVA showed that the TelenursaMoms intervention group had significantly higher post-test scores than the control group in all outcomes: emotional regulation (F(1,79) = 16.0, p < 0.001, partial η² = 0.17), maternal self-confidence (F(1,79) = 19.5, p < 0.001, partial η² = 0.20), marital satisfaction (F(1,79) = 25.0, p < 0.001, partial η² = 0.24), and family cohesion (F(1,79) = 42.3, p < 0.001, partial η² = 0.35). TelenursaMoms proved significantly effective, especially in strengthening family cohesion and marital satisfaction, two relational aspects that are frequently neglected in existing digital interventions for maternal well-being.
