Abstract

Teak leaf extract has potential as a natural dye for dyeing textile materials because it contains many natural pigments. The exhaust method was used to dye cotton woven fabric with teak leaf extract at 40 oC in an alkaline solution (pH 10). The dyed fabric then proceeded to the postmordant process with a comparison of alum and ferrosulfate variations. Evaluation of physical and chemical characteristics was carried out by testing color fastness and evenness, color space, and color fastness to washing and rubbing. According to the results, ferrosulfate mordant provided the highest values for color fastness and evenness (K/S 1.4805 and SD 0.0055) in comparison to alum (K/S values of 0.2857 and SD 0.0077). Alum mordant created a color space of a* +5.36 and b* +3.75, while ferrosulphate mordant produced a* +0.55 and b* +7.86. Both mordants received good ratings (4-5) for color fastness to washing. Alum had a good color fastness rating (4-5) while ferrosulfate received a rating of (4).

Abstract

Polyester-cotton fabric was dyed using disperse and reactive dyes. Dyeing of polyester using disperse dyes is commonly performed under acidic pH condition. However, reactive dyes dyeing process requires an alkaline pH condition so that the dye can be fixed on the cotton fiber. The usage of strong alkaline can cause erosion of the surface of the polyester fiber and result in a decrease in tensile strength. This research discusses about alkaline usage in the dyeing process of polyester-cotton fabric with disperse and reactive dyes to obtain good dyeing quality without reducing the tensile strength value of the fabric. The type of alkaline used was Na 2CO3 with concentration of 10 g/L (pH 11), 15 g/L (pH 12) and 20 g/L (pH 13). The dyeing process is carried out continuously using one bath two stages (1B2S). The characterization carried out on the dyeing samples were analyzed by tensile strength testing, color strength, color evenness using spectrophotometer, and color fastness to rubbing test. The results of the research showed the best condition under pH 12 with the usage of 15 g/L Na2CO3 had greater value of 39 kg for warp tensile strength, 28.08 kg for weft tensile strength, 12.69 of color strength, 1.17 of color evenness, color fastness to wet rubbing of 4 and color fastness to dry rubbing of 4-5.

Abstract

Daun Jati merupakan jenis tumbuhan yang berpotensi diaplikasikan sebagai zat warna alami tekstil. Memiliki pigmen tanin dan antosianin membuat daun jati dapat menghasilkan warna yang variatif dan menarik. Pencelupan dilakukan dengan metode exhaust pada kain tenun kapas, 40 oC dalam suasana asam (pH 4). Guna memperoleh ikatan kimia antar zat warna dan serat setelah pencelupan, dilakukan proses mordanting dengan melihat pengaruh zat mordan berbeda menggunakan tawas dan ferrosulfat. Evaluasi yang dilakukan pada kain hasil pencelupan ialah ketuaan, kerataan, arah warna, serta ketahanan luntur warna akibat pencucian dan gosokan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukan penambahan mordan ferrosulfat memiliki nilai ketuaan warna tertinggi dengan K/S 1,6692 dibandingkan dengan tawas dengan nilai K/S 0,3526. Arah warna pada mordan tawas diperoleh nilai a* +1,62 dan b* -1,2, serta pada ferrosulfat didapatkan nilai a* -3,9 dan b* +4,86. Ketahanan luntur warna berdasarkan pencucian menggunakan grey and staining scale dengan penggunaan kedua mordan mendapatkan nilai baik (4-5) dan berdasarkan gosokan kering dan basah dengan nilai baik hingga cukup baik. Dengan penambahan mordan diketahui dapat meningkatkan nilai ketahanan luntur warna terhadap pencucian maupun gosokan.
