Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan kegiatan pra-literasi berbasis cerita bergambar dalam meningkatkan kemampuan literasi awal anak usia dini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini melibatkan guru kelas dan anak usia dini sebagai subjek utama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan cerita bergambar secara sistematis dalam kegiatan pra-literasi meningkatkan keterlibatan anak dalam aktivitas membaca sebesar 85%, dengan peningkatan kemampuan mengenali huruf dan kata sederhana mencapai 70% berdasarkan hasil asesmen formatif mingguan. Selain itu, interaksi verbal anak meningkat hingga 60% selama sesi diskusi setelah membaca cerita. Penggunaan media cerita bergambar terbukti efektif dalam menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, interaktif, dan bermakna. Simpulan penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa metode berbasis cerita bergambar memberikan kontribusi signifikan dalam mendukung perkembangan fondasi literasi anak usia dini.

Abstract

Introduction of basic science concepts to early childhood is very important to stimulate curiosity, develop critical thinking skills, and build an initial understanding of natural phenomena. This article aims to explore the use of simple experimental methods as a means to build basic science concepts in Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal 2 Kindergarten. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of experimental activities, such as mixing colors and observing the properties of objects. The results showed that simple experiments that were designed in a safe, interesting, and easy-to-understand way were able to increase children's engagement, strengthen their understanding of basic science concepts, and encourage questioning and experimenting activities. In conclusion, simple experiments are an effective learning strategy in supporting the cognitive development and curiosity of early childhood. These findings can be adapted by other PAUD educators by adjusting the context and characteristics of children in each learning environment. In addition, this approach is relevant to the principles of active and constructivist learning in early childhood education, so that it can enrich pedagogical practices at the national and global levels. Abstract

General Background: Teaching Natural Sciences (IPA) in elementary school often encounters challenges due to the abstract nature of certain concepts, such as electrical energy. Specific Background: Traditional instructional approaches may fail to engage students or provide concrete experiences needed for deep understanding. Knowledge Gap: There is limited research on the effectiveness of hands-on, contextual media in enhancing conceptual comprehension in electricity among elementary students. Aims: This study investigates the effectiveness of a miniature lamp house as an instructional medium to improve students’ understanding of electric circuits and energy flow. Results: Using a descriptive qualitative method with 16 fifth-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 29 Surabaya, data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation—analyzed via the Miles and Huberman model—showed increased student engagement, enhanced conceptual understanding of electricity, and improved learning outcomes. Novelty: The miniature lamp house not only made abstract content tangible but also fostered collaboration and exploration, offering an innovative, low-cost learning tool aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum. Implications: The findings support the integration of concrete, student-centered media to strengthen basic science literacy and contribute toward achieving SDG 4: Quality Education, especially in promoting inclusive and equitable learning at the elementary level.
