Abstract

ABSTRACT Elderly health cadres were community members who selflessly devoted their time and skills to serve as elderly posyandu cadres. Their essential contributions enhanced accessibility to health services for seniors and boosted community participation in health initiatives. The introduction of the simple early screening (SKILAS) instrument significantly improved the early detection of health issues among the elderly, ensuring timely care and intervention. Health education employed lectures, informational leaflets, and interactive video informative as primary media education, supplemented by home-visit observations to evaluate community service activities. After a two-day training session, twenty elderly health cadres significantly improved their skills in performing simple elderly screenings and effectively using the e-SKILAS form for early detection activities at the integrated health-post (p<0.001). To ensure they stayed informed about community health issues affecting the elderly, it was recommended that training sessions be conducted routinely on a biannual basis. Keywords: SKILAS Intrument, Early Detection, Elderly Heath, Community Cadres, Posyandu.

Abstract

Adolescents are known to be more vulnerable to mental health issues due to the emotional upheaval that characterizes the transition from childhood to adulthood. Globally, 1 in 7 adolescents experiences emotional mental health problems, mainly anxiety and depression. The Indonesia National Adolescence Mental Health Survey (I-NAHMS) reports that one in three Indonesian adolescents faces mental health issues, and one in twenty suffers from mental disorders. Early screening and intervention are crucial due to the high risk and significant impact of these problems. Raising awareness among the community, especially within schools, about adolescent emotional mental health is essential. This activity uses the Health Promotion Model, targeting three guidance counseling teachers and 61 peer counselors from grades X and XI at a public high school in South Jakarta. Training showed improvements in understanding and knowledge of guidance-counceling’ teachers and peer counselors (p=0.00), and in conducting assessments using the e-SDQ instrument for screening and psychological first aid. This enables early intervention for adolescents’ emotional mental issues before referral to the PKPR clinic at the community health center.

Abstract

The high comorbidity rate between diabetes mellitus and tuberculosis has a significant impact on the patient's health-related quality of life and eradication of tuberculosis program outcomes, especially in lower-middle-income countries that bear a "double disease burden". This review outlines the health-related quality of life of tuberculosis patients with diabetes. The search, selection, and article collection procedures were unmethodical. The retrieved articles were open-access and full-text in English. Health-related quality of life includes physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Health-related quality of life in diabetes, tuberculosis, and tuberculosis-diabetes comorbid patients experienced negative changes in all domains. Commonly used health-related quality-of-life measures can be generic or disease-specific. This review also highlights the importance of collaborative tuberculosis and diabetes management supported by the community, health workers, and stakeholders. Finally, this collaborative management support will enhance patient health-related quality of life and contribute to the accomplishment of the tuberculosis elimination program.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Proper TB management hinges on three key aspects: early diagnosis, early detection of drug resistance, and prompt initiation of treatment plans. Mobilizing the community to actively participate in TB screening activities conducted by health facilities is crucial. Enhancing the knowledge and skills of health cadres is necessary to enable them to independently and support health workers in community TB screening efforts. This activity aims to evaluate, assess and address issues, improve TB case detection and treatment, and empower health cadres to become TB champions, accelerating the elimination of tuberculosis, in Pasar Minggu sub-district, South Jakarta. Results indicate that the education and training activities effectively enhanced cadres' TB screening and contact investigation skills. Post-test assessments showed significant (p<0.05) improvement in understanding and abilities, with average scores rising considerably from 78.67 (pre-test) to 98.67 (post-test), confirming successful knowledge and skill acquisition. Health cadres identified five new cases through home visits during active case-finding and contact investigation efforts. Engaging the community is crucial for effective public health interventions, ensuring both relevance and practical implementation. Keywords: Skill Development, Tuberculosis Management, Community Involvement.
