Abstract

Adolescence is a critical phase of life characterised by rapid physical, emotional, and psychological changes. Posyandu Remaja, a community-based health program tailored for adolescents, has gained attention for its potential to address various health issues during this pivotal period. This article aims to provide an overview of the consistent implementation of Posyandu Remaja in Tempel and Wedung Villages, Demak, Central Java, shedding light on adolescent health in the area. This is an interesting topic because not all regions in Indonesia have implemented Posyandu Remaja. Data collection techniques were carried out through qualitative interviews with midwives from each village regarding Posyandu Remaja and also health checks such as anthropometric, blood pressure and HB (hemoglobin) examinations as part of Posyandu Remaja activities and to provide an overview of adolescent health in the area. The interviews delved into the midwives' perspectives regarding the program's impact, strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement. Observation of health issues and evaluation of Posyandu Remaja in each village also have been carried out during community service activities through health interventions by KKN PPM UGM JT-133 team. The findings highlight the significant role of Posyandu Remaja in raising health awareness among adolescents. Posyandu Remaja serves as a valuable platform for enhancing adolescent health knowledge, fostering positive behavioural changes, and creating a supportive community environment for adolescents. To maximise its impact, activities in Posyandu Remaja are made varied. In addition to health examination or health education, activities that enhance soft skills or artistic skills among adolescents have been conducted. Thus, the adolescents can develop their self-confidence, proficiency, and are physically and mentally healthy. The holistic approach of Posyandu Remaja demonstrates its potential to shape a healthier and more informed younger generation, laying the foundation for improved overall public health in the long term.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a global health problem, including in Indonesia itself, where the death rate caused by NCDs is quite high. One of the NCDs that is often found in society is diabetes mellitus and gout. An integrated coaching post (posbindu) was implemented as a NCDs prevention program targeting people aged 15–60 years. Posbindu has been running regularly in three villages where the UGM KKN-PPM unit JT-133 is located, namely Tedunan Village, Wedung Village, and Tempel Village. This research method is to collect data from health test results, is processed descriptively and quantitatively, and short anamnesis results (qualitative data) to explore the risk factor. The characteristics of the Posbindu participants examined were 14% men and 86% women, with ages ranging from 20 to 60 years, with details of the age group 19–44 being 53% and 45–60 years being 47%. Apart from that, the body mass index (BMI) of Posbindu participants was 47% normal, while 49% were obese. When examining the blood sugar of the obese group aged 19-44 years, there was an increase in blood sugar levels and the incidence of diabetes, compared to the non-obese group in the same age group. In the uric acid examination, it was found that the incidence of hyperuricemia in the 19-44 years age group was related to the incidence of obesity and certain eating patterns. From these data it can be concluded that one of the causes of diabetes mellitus and gout in the 19-44 years age group is lifestyle. The unhealthy lifestyle of coastal communities in these three villages includes lack of physical activity, excessive consumption of foods and drinks high in sugar, and others. Therefore, promoting a healthy lifestyle wherever and whenever, especially during posbindu, is the main key in preventing and treating NCDs.

Abstract

The eyes play an important role in a student's life. When eye problems occur, there can be a decrease in visual acuity, which can impact the student's quality of life. This can be characterized by blurry eyes when looking at the blackboard or looking far away. Student activities often involve prolonged staring at close objects, such as reading, doing assignments, or using devices such as smartphones and laptops. Without realizing it, these habits become a risk factor for a student to experience refractive error in the form of myopia, or nearsightedness. Students who experience myopia often do not realize it, so as an effort to maintain eye health, it is necessary to conduct eye screening to find out whether students experience refractive disorders or not, including in Wedung Subdistrict which is the location of KKN-PPM UGM unit JT-13. In order to carry out community service, eye screening is carried out for junior high school students. Located in 4 junior high schools in Wedung Sub-district, visual acuity (visus) was measured using the Snellen chart. A total of 300 junior high school students were examined, 55 of whom had decreased visual acuity. After each examination, students were educated on how to maintain eye health. In students with decreased visual acuity, risk factors were explored. This article is designed to describe how the eye health screening was conducted, the condition of some junior high school students with decreased visual acuity, and the risk factors that may cause refractive errors. Data collection was done by listing the results of each school's visus examination and history taking after the examination. The results of the visual acuity examination were analyzed using a descriptive quantitative method, while the interview data were analyzed using a qualitative method. Eye screening in junior high school students is expected to be a health promotion tool for both students with refractive errors and those without, as a reminder to maintain their eye health. For students with refractive errors, the screening can be a prelude to further examination so that students get immediate treatment, which can be in the form of refractive correction with the use of glasses, so that the refractive error that occurs doesn't getting worse.
