Abstract

Indonesia sebagai negara megabiodiversitas menyimpan potensi tanaman obat berbasis kearifan lokal Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) di Bukit 30, Kabupaten Tebo yang belum dieksplorasi secara menyeluruh. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi kandungan metabolit sekunder dan menilai potensi farmakologis 16 spesies tanaman obat yang digunakan oleh SAD untuk pengembangan fitofarmaka. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi etnofarmakologi deskriptif eksploratif berbasis telaah pustaka (2018–2024) pada database SINTA, PubMed, dan Scopus. Data dikumpulkan melalui etnodokumentasi dan analisis fitokimia serta dievaluasi secara kualitatif menggunakan pengodean tematik dan visualisasi tabel. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa spesies yang ditelaah mengandung kelompok senyawa bioaktif seperti flavonoid, polifenol, alkaloid, terpenoid, saponin, dan sterol, yang berkaitan dengan aktivitas antiinflamasi, antibakteri, antidiabetik, dan antitumor. Temuan ini mendukung kesesuaian praktik pengobatan tradisional SAD dengan bukti ilmiah dan menempatkan Bukit 30 sebagai sumber potensial untuk pengembangan produk herbal nasional.

Abstract

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is a spice plant with significant potential for the development of natural-based functional foods, particularly as a metabolism-enhancing beverage. The traditional use of ginger as a health drink highlights the need for scientific studies to strengthen evidence of its physiological benefits. This article aims to review the phytochemical composition of ginger rhizomes and their bioactive potential as a functional beverage for improving metabolic function. The research employed a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis based on a literature review of relevant national and international scientific publications. The discussion reveals that ginger rhizomes contain various phytochemical compounds, including gingerol, shogaol, zingerone, essential oils, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, triterpenoids, and dietary fiber, which exhibit thermogenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulatory activities. These bioactive compounds act synergistically to enhance energy expenditure, metabolic efficiency, and overall metabolic balance. The formulation of ginger as a functional beverage enables improved bioavailability of active compounds while offering high consumer acceptance and safety for regular consumption. Based on the findings, ginger demonstrates strong potential as a nutraceutical-based functional drink that supports metabolic enhancement and long-term metabolic health

Abstract

Betel leaf (Piper betle L.) is a herbal plant that has long been used in traditional medicine and is known to contain various secondary metabolites with potential bioactive effects on human health. This study aims to characterize the metabolite compounds of betel leaves and to review their bioactive potential based on a literature study. The research method employed was a literature review by analyzing relevant national and international scientific articles published in reputable and indexed journals. The selected literature focused on the types of secondary metabolites, analytical methods used, and reported bioactivities. The results of the literature synthesis indicate that betel leaves contain several metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and essential oils. These compounds have been reported to exhibit various bioactivities, including antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal activities. Based on the literature review, betel leaves have significant potential to be developed as a natural source for health-related applications. This study is expected to provide a scientific basis for further research on the utilization of betel leaves as natural therapeutic agents

Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) contains various bioactive compounds, including phenolic compounds that contribute to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. This study aimed to identify the presence of phenolic compounds in turmeric samples through laboratory testing and to strengthen the findings by comparison with scientific literature. The research method involved the preparation of an experimental solution using 70% ethanol, followed by qualitative identification of phenolic compounds using a 3% FeCl₃ reagent. Color changes observed after the addition of the reagent were used as indicators of phenolic compounds. The laboratory results were analyzed descriptively and compared with findings from previous studies. The results showed that the turmeric sample exhibited a positive reaction to the 3% FeCl₃ test, indicating the presence of phenolic compounds. Comparison with scientific literature supports these findings and confirms the potential of turmeric as a natural source with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties for health and pharmaceutical applications

Abstract

Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a tropical fruit widely consumed and recognized for its potential role in supporting digestive health and appetite enhancement. This potential is associated with its phytochemical composition and digestive enzymes, particularly bromelain, which facilitates protein breakdown and improves digestive efficiency. This study aimed to review the phytochemical profile and digestive activity of pineapple based on scientific literature. A literature review method was applied using relevant national and international publications, focusing on bioactive compounds, analytical methods, and biological activities related to digestion and appetite. The findings indicate that pineapple contains bromelain, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, vitamin C, and dietary fiber. These components contribute to enhanced digestive enzyme activity, improved gastrointestinal function, and indirect appetite stimulation through better digestion. In addition, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of pineapple support gastrointestinal health. Overall, pineapple shows potential as a functional food to support digestion and appetite

Abstract

Duku fruit (Lansium domesticum) is a tropical fruit that has potential as a natural source of metabolite compounds with various bioactive properties beneficial to human health. This study aimed to characterize the metabolite compounds present in duku fruit based on a literature review and to examine their bioactive potential in the health field. The research method employed was a literature study by reviewing relevant national and international scientific articles, particularly studies reporting the types of metabolite compounds, analytical methods used, and bioactive activities of duku fruit. The literature review results indicate that duku fruit contains various secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, phenolic compounds, terpenoids, alkaloids, and saponins, which have been identified using analytical methods such as phytochemical screening, chromatography, and spectroscopic techniques. These compounds have been reported to exhibit bioactive activities, including antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic potentials. Based on the comparative analysis of the literature, duku fruit shows promising potential to be developed as a natural source for health-related applications. This review is expected to provide a scientific reference for further research on the utilization of duku fruit in the health sector

Abstract

Various therapeutic strategies have been developed to promote effective and safe wound healing, particularly those derived from natural sources. Centella asiatica has gained significant attention due to its bioactive compounds that support skin tissue regeneration. This paper aims to comprehensively review the biological activity and pharmacological mechanisms of Centella asiatica in the wound healing process. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach, analyzing relevant national and international scientific publications. The findings indicate that major triterpenoid compounds, including asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid, play essential roles in stimulating fibroblast proliferation, enhancing collagen synthesis, accelerating epithelialization, and regulating inflammation and oxidative stress. In addition, the antibacterial properties and pigmentation-modulating effects of Centella asiatica contribute to improved wound healing quality. The use of modern topical formulations has been shown to increase bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. In conclusion, Centella asiatica demonstrates strong potential as a safe, effective, and applicable natural-based therapeutic agent for wound management and dermatological application

Abstract

Kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris) is a fern plant traditionally used as food and medicinal plant. Recently, kelakai has gained scientific attention due to its bioactive compounds with potential phytoestrogenic activity, which mimic estrogen-like effects in the body. Phytoestrogens are known to play a role in lactation, particularly in supporting breast milk production. This study aims to review the scientific evidence regarding kelakai as a phytoestrogen source and its potential role in lactation optimization based on available literature. The method employed was a literature review of relevant national and international scientific articles related to kelakai, phytoestrogens, and lactation. The results indicate that kelakai contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids and phenolic compounds that may contribute to phytoestrogenic activity. These compounds are reported to support hormonal balance and potentially enhance breast milk production. In conclusion, kelakai shows promise as a natural phytoestrogen source that may be developed to support lactation optimization and functional food applications.

Abstract

Sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata) leaves are widely recognized as medicinal plants used in traditional therapy due to their rich content of bioactive secondary metabolites. Several bioactive compounds found in sambiloto leaves include andrographolide, flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, and alkaloids, which play important roles in therapeutic activities. One of the main issues is the lack of integrated reviews linking these bioactive metabolites with their potential use as therapeutic agents. This study aims to review the bioactive metabolite compounds of A. paniculata leaves and their roles in therapeutic applications. The method used was a literature review by analyzing various national and international scientific articles related to metabolite content and pharmacological activities of sambiloto leaves. The results indicate that phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and tannins contribute to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, while andrographolide and alkaloids are associated with antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and immunomodulatory effects. In conclusion, sambiloto leaves have strong potential to be developed as natural therapeutic agents based on their bioactive secondary metabolites

Abstract

Eucalyptus (Melaleuca leucadendra) is a medicinal plant found abundantly in tropical Indonesia and is widely known as a source of essential oils with diverse pharmacological activities. Eucalyptus leaves contain various secondary metabolites, such as monoterpenes (especially 1,8-cineole), flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and phenolic compounds, which play a role in antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic activities. This study aims to examine the characteristics of secondary metabolites in eucalyptus leaves and evaluate their potential bioactivity in the pharmaceutical field. The method used was a systematic literature review (SLR) of scientific publications from 2018–2025 that discussed the phytochemistry and pharmacological activities of Melaleuca leucadendra. The results indicate that the main constituent of eucalyptus leaf essential oil, particularly 1,8-cineole, has antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting inflammatory mediators. Furthermore, the flavonoid and phenolic compounds contribute to antioxidant activity, which is important in protecting cells from oxidative stress. These findings confirm that eucalyptus leaves have significant potential for development as a raw material for pharmaceutical preparations, both topical and inhaled
