Abstract

The 2018 National Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) reported caries prevalence of 81.1% among children aged 3–4 years and 92.6% among those aged 5–9 years. This vulnerability is exacerbated by frequent intake of sugary foods, improper toothbrushing techniques, and limited oral health knowledge among children and their parents. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dental health education in improving the knowledge of preschool children at Al-Munawaroh Kindergarten, Kediri. The intervention was conducted on October 28, 2025, using interactive lectures, toothbrushing demonstrations, guided practice, ice-breaker activities, and pre-test and post-test assessments. A total of 24 children participated in the program. Initial examination showed a mean DMF-T score of 2.08, indicating a moderate level of caries in this age group. Pre-test results demonstrated low baseline knowledge across all assessment indicators. Following the educational intervention, children’s knowledge improved significantly, with the mean score increasing from 2.06 ± 1.19 to 4.31 ± 0.60. The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.001), with an average increase of 2.25 points. These findings confirm that educational strategies incorporating demonstrations, hands-on brushing practice, visual media, and interactive activities are effective in enhancing children’s understanding and skills in maintaining oral hygiene. Such programs are recommended as routine school-based interventions to support early prevention of dental caries. Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors with an increasing global prevalence, including in Indonesia (21.66%). Gut microbiota dysbiosis has been identified as a central mechanism linking dietary patterns to metabolic syndrome pathogenesis through inflammatory pathways, insulin resistance, and hepatic dysfunction. Fermented foods represent a promising non-pharmacological prevention strategy through modulation of the gut microbiota ecosystem; however, evidence based on Indonesian local foods remains scarce. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach combined with bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer 1.6.20 on 106 selected articles from the ScienceDirect database (2016–2026). The analysis identified four major clusters: (1) gut microbiota composition modulation and lipid-hepatic regulation via the gut–liver axis; (2) microbiota–SCFA–insulin resistance interactions; (3) gene expression regulation and PI3K/AKT cellular signaling; and (4) translational applications of probiotic- and prebiotic-based functional foods. Cross-cluster synthesis revealed that short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), particularly butyrate, serve as key mediators linking all four pathways simultaneously. Traditional Indonesian fermented foods such as tempe, oncom, and tape possess inherent synbiotic potential yet remain systematically unexplored. These findings underscore the urgency of conducting clinical research on local Indonesian fermented foods to support nutritional policy development and functional food innovation.

Abstract

Oral health remains a global burden affecting more than 3.5 billion individuals worldwide. Despite the rapid advancement of digital technology, its role as a medium for oral health promotion and education has not been systematically mapped. This study aimed to analyze the role of digital interventions in oral health education and promotion through a bibliometric-based Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Data were collected from the ScienceDirect database using the PRISMA method with the keywords Digital Media AND Oral AND Community and Dental Health Promotion AND Community, yielding 529 selected articles published between 2016 and 2026. Analysis was conducted using VOSviewer 1.6.20 through a term co-occurrence approach, resulting in 34 items grouped into four clusters. Findings revealed that digital interventions effectively improve oral health knowledge and behavior. The four clusters encompassed digital literacy and behavior change, the burden of dental disease in children, web-based program implementation, and family access barriers and perceptions. Temporal trend analysis indicated a paradigm shift from descriptive-epidemiological toward technology-based interventionist approaches. A research gap was identified regarding the role of social mediators in digital dental service adoption. These findings highlight the urgency of developing protocolized, inclusive, and contextually appropriate digital interventions to sustainably improve community oral health.

Abstract

This community service aims to enhance AI literacy among first-year dental students through a ChatGPT-based training program, resulting in improved understanding of AI concepts, practical skills in using ChatGPT, and critical awareness in assessing its outputs.. A total of 58 students participated, with effectiveness measured through a pre-test and post-test Likert-scale questionnaire covering five indicators: understanding of AI and ChatGPT, application in learning, technical skills, critical validation, and academic confidence. Results showed improvements in all indicators, with the highest increase in technical skills (56.08%) and the lowest in critical validation (29.77%). One-way ANOVA confirmed significant differences among indicators (F = 88.335, p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that short training can effectively strengthen students’ AI literacy by improving knowledge, technical proficiency, and academic confidence. Nonetheless, the relatively lower gain in critical validation highlights the need for extended guidance in verifying ChatGPT outputs. This program can serve as a practical model for fostering digital literacy in higher education.
