Abstract

The documentary film “Apocalyptic Tides” is an audiovisual work that explores the phenomenon of ocean-borne waste in coastal areas. The writer acts as the scriptwriter, focusing on the development of an expository narrative as the foundational structure for both the storyline and the creative aspects of the film. The narrative employs a three-act structure with a suggestive storytelling approach, utilizing various rhetorical devices to evoke a strong emotional response from the audience. An expository narrative method is used to convey factual information clearly and thoroughly, structured through an introduction of the issue via observational visuals and voice-over, a depiction of the ecological conflict caused by ocean-borne waste, and a resolution that reveals deeper insights into the underlying problem. The result demonstrates that the use of an expository narrative can effectively build public awareness of the ecological crisis caused by waste accumulation, particularly during the monsoon season. This film serves not only as an informative medium but also as a communicative tool that evokes empathy toward coastal ecosystem degradation.

Abstract

The animated work Green Log: Where The Package Meets Planet, explores the environmental impact of urban logistics activities through a minimalist yet informative flat design visual approach, utilizing actual air quality data (Jakarta AQI), delivery vehicle emission patterns, as well as case studies of sustainable solutions such as the implementation of electric vehicles in the IKN and global practices of companies such as Amazon. The creation process begins with quantitative research on logistics-related pollution patterns, the development of visual narratives based on motion graphics principles with graphic match-cut techniques for symbolic transitions between problems and solutions, to the production of 2D animations that optimize the green-blue color palette and simple geometric elements to convey the complexity of environmental issues more easily digested. The final result, a 3-minute animated video, not only visualizes the relationship between 166 million monthly deliveries and the degradation of Jakarta's air quality, but also offers a solution perspective through the visualization of the transformation of conventional logistics systems towards sustainable models, with the hope of increasing public awareness and encouraging discussions about green transportation policies in Indonesia

Abstract

The rapid development of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed how university students acquire, process, and produce information in the learning process. While AI offers significant convenience, its increasing use has also given rise to the phenomenon of cognitive offloading, in which individuals increasingly delegate cognitive processes to technology. This phenomenon may reduce students' engagement in critical thinking when AI is used without appropriate consideration. Therefore, an effective medium is needed to communicate this issue in a clear and engaging manner. This creative research aims to apply the hand-drawn technique in designing flat design assets for the 2D animated work Where Is the Line Between Assistance and Dependence? as a medium for conveying the phenomenon of cognitive offloading among university students. The creative process consists of pre-production, production, and post-production stages, including literature review, visual concept development, illustration asset creation using the hand-drawn technique, digitalization into a flat design style, animation production, and audio-video editing. This visual approach was selected to transform abstract concepts into concrete representations through the integration of illustration, motion, narration, and audio, thereby facilitating audience understanding and encouraging students to reflect on the responsible use of AI without diminishing their engagement in independent thinking.

Abstract

This study examines how millennial farmers construct the meaning of professional agricultural branding through their everyday communication experiences. Grounded in Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological perspective, the study involved nine purposively selected millennial farmers aged 30–38 in Tegal Regency, Central Java. Interview, observation, and documentary data collected in May 2026 were analysed through epoché, phenomenological reduction, and imaginative variation. The findings indicate that decisions to pursue farming are shaped by the interplay between because-motives and in-order-to motives. Farming is understood through economic, ideational, affective, and self-actualising dimensions, while occupational stigma is addressed through five communicative branding strategies. Unlike previous studies focusing on digital self-presentation or outsiders’ perceptions, this study reconstructs occupational branding from farmers’ lived experiences. The findings demonstrate that individual branding can serve as an instrument for repositioning farming as a valuable collective profession. The resulting stigma-to-strategy model offers implications for farmer regeneration policies, agricultural extension, and the strengthening of both digital and face-to-face communication.
