Abstract

This research is motivated by the low development of mathematical abilities of children aged 5-6 years in Group B of Imanul Ulya Kindergarten, Cisero Village, Cisurupan District according to cognitive development indicators, especially symbolic thinking in STPPA, which is not optimal. Therefore, the question of this research is whether hand puppet media can improve the mathematical abilities of children aged 5-6 years in Group B of Imanul Ulya Kindergarten, Cisero Village, Cisurupan District. The purpose of this study was to determine how hand puppet media is used in Imanul Ulya Kindergarten, Cisero Village, Cisurupan District and how the mathematical abilities of children aged 5-6 years are developed through this media. The type of research used is classroom action research with the Kemmis-Taggart model. This study involved a total of 10 children and was carried out in two cycles with each cycle consisting of three meetings. Data collection techniques include observation and documentation with qualitative data analysis. Based on the research results, in the last cycle the average score of the development of mathematical abilities of children aged 5-6 years at Imanul Ulya Kindergarten was 34.38 with a completion percentage of 20% (2 children). In cycle I, the average value increased to 53.75 with a completion percentage of 60% (6 children). In cycle II, the average value reached 80.63 with a completion percentage of 90% (9 children).
