Abstract

Abstract The challenge of moral degradation among students raises a significant question about the role of spirituality in Religious Education. Moreover, Hindu Religious Education is a compulsory course that is offered for only one semester through formal channels. Based on these problems, the Branch Leadership of the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Student Union Denpasar (PC KMHDI Denpasar) aims to initiate a regeneration process that provides a deeper understanding of religious teachings through non-formal channels. Although it has been implemented, there has never been concrete research on the success of the deepening effort. Therefore, this research is presented with the primary purpose of addressing three problem formulations related to the urgency, essence, and form of implementing deepening Hindu Religious Education through non-formal channels in PC KMHDI Denpasar.  This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive naturalistic approach. Primary data sources were obtained through observation and interview processes, as well as secondary data through literature and documentation studies, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman basis. The results of this study found that the deepening of Hindu Religious Education through non-formal channels in PC KMHDI Denpasar is carried out with a tiered and structured regeneration system. In conclusion, this program can provide an understanding of the essence and implications of deepening Hindu Education through non-formal channels, which can foster a sense of religion, humanism, and solidarity, among others. These results and discussions serve as a role model for an inclusive, non-formal education forum enabling a moderate young generation to fulfill their obligations to the state (Dharma Negara) and religion (Dharma Agama).

Abstract

Exclusiveness is a challenge for Indonesia as a pluralistic nation. Based on the data, cases of intolerance have even begun to target the world of education. In response to this challenge, religious universities in Indonesia have come together to implement a collaborative program called Nationhood Community Program Service, which is well-known as Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Nusantara. However, there has been no description of the form and implications of the program in concrete terminologies. This research aims to examine in depth the essence and implications of KKN Nusantara in developing the moderate character based on the Concept of Religious Moderation. This research utilized a qualitative type, with a phenomenological approach. Through purposive sampling technique, the main data was obtained through interviews with student representatives, lecturers, and the community. The data was then corroborated with a literature study, validated using triangulation techniques, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman approach. The results showed that the essence of KKN Nusantara is presented as an embodiment of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and is expressed in the form of several work programs, including Independence Day Celebrations, the introduction to holy places, socialization of religious moderation, and preservation of local culture. As a conclusion, the implementation of KKN Nusantara produces positive implications in developing the moderate character of the community based on the Concept of Religious Moderation, both towards the attitude of national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and accommodation for local culture.
