Abstract

This study aims to analyze intolerant attitudes among students at SMP Negeri 4 Lalan, as well as identify the causal factors and solutions to overcome them. The main problem found is the persistence of intolerant behavior such as judging each other, a lack of mutual assistance, and teasing among peers. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation with informants consisting of homeroom teachers, PPKn teachers, and student representatives. The results of the study indicate that intolerant attitudes arise due to internal factors, such as students' limited understanding of diversity, as well as external factors, such as the influence of the family environment, peers, and social media. These attitudes negatively impact the learning climate and character development of students. Solutions offered include instilling an attitude of tolerance from an early age and implementing cooperative learning in the classroom. Both approaches are considered effective in building empathy, mutual respect, and an inclusive school environment. Thus, education plays a crucial role in preventing the growth of intolerant attitudes and shaping a generation that values differences

Abstract

This research was inspired by the belief that education should not only aim for academic achievement but also focus on shaping students' character to be religious, tolerant, and moderate. At SD Muhammadiyah 18 Palembang, one of the flagship programs to realize this vision is the diniyah extracurricular activities. Through these activities, students are guided to strengthen their understanding of Islam while also practicing values of religious moderation. The programs include iqra' and Qur'an learning, prayer and hadith ctice, all of which are designed to encourage students to not only know the theory but also live it out in daily life. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that diniyah extracurriculars contribute greatly to building moderation attitudes in students. Methods like reading, sima'i (listening), tahsin tilawah, and writing also enhance discipline, confidence, and responsibility. Support from schools, facilities, students, and parents has strengthened the program, although challenges such as time limitations and tutoring schedules still exist. Overall, diniyah extracurriculars serve as an effective model for nurturing a religious, tolerant, and nationally minded generation in Indonesia.
