Abstract

Although there is a lot of legitimacy that says no religion teaches hostility, in reality, conflict often colors religious life. The number of conflicts that arose and were related to religion has finally brought academic discourse to a struggle among thinkers related to the discourse of religion as a source of conflict. This article highlights the conflicts in Indonesia due to the discourse of thinkers. The article explores several related literature to illustrate how the discourse is debated. Some Qur'anic verses and their interpretations are also included to emphasize the author's argument and positioning in the discourse. At the national level, domestic thinkers are divided into two camps between those who say religion is a source of conflict and those who do not. At the international level, this discourse even reaches the assumption of religion, especially Islam, as a threat. Some Western thinkers have also proposed the idea of a world without Islam or even without religion. This article concludes that religious conflicts contain many complex elements so that religion cannot necessarily be used as a scapegoat for all problems. Moreover, the behavior of religious people will determine the face of religion in society, so improving religious behavior is the key rather than thinking of eliminating religion itself.

Abstract

Teaching the concept of divinity in Islam, which tends to be abstract, to preschool children is a challenge, given their immature cognitive modalities. To this end, this article explores teachers' approaches and narrative models used in providing divinity education to Muslim children. Semi-structured interviews with Muslim teachers who have more than one year of experience teaching preschool children show that the approaches and narrative models used by the teachers vary widely and tend to be eclectic. Teachers tend to introduce and relate children to the concept of divinity through habituation and religious terms rather than teaching the concept of divinity in detail to children. The approaches used by teachers are linguistic and habituation approaches. The narratives used are body analogies, natural phenomena, simple associations, and chants or nadzam (Arabic poetry) that are recited and memorized together. These findings make an important contribution to the development of contextualized and developmentally appropriate divinity education methods in an Islamic cultural environment.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia holds a unique position alongside general education institutions. According to BPS data, the number of Islamic educational institutions and students is about 50% less than that of general education institutions. This research aims to formulate a more inclusive and visionary orientation for Islamic education. Utilizing a literature study method, this research examines several books, journals, hadith, and related verses, supported by explanations from various tafsir books. The study highlights the importance of addressing the worldly goals of humans within Islamic education, emphasizing the need to accommodate the basic needs of human life in the future. It proposes that inclusive and visionary Islamic education should focus on two key aspects: the competence and existence of students. To achieve this, it is essential to eliminate dichotomous barriers or dualism in its organization and policies. The study’s implications call for policies that ensure equal emphasis on both general and religious subjects in Islamic educational institutions, moving away from a two-path policy.

Abstract

Religion and conflict are two things that have long appeared in human life. The inevitability between both cannot be separated. But in the next step, many parties then positioned religion as the source of the emergence of major conflicts in human civilization. A number of conflicts with religious nuances have made a number of parties' views even more cynical about religion. There were even some scholars who presupposed the absence of religion on earth so that painful conflicts in history would never occur. Through the results of an investigation of literature studies, this article tries to answer how the relationship between the two is in human life. Answering questions about does religion really create conflict? What if religion doesn't exist, will bloody conflicts still occur? The results of the study show that the presence or absence of religion has nothing to do with the presence or absence of conflict in human life. Even though religion can give birth to conflict, on the other hand religion also plays a role as a conflict mediator. Even the absence of religion does not guarantee that humans will never have conflicts. That way, the key is to strengthen awareness of tolerance among religious communities so that human life can become more harmonious and even though conflicts cannot be avoided, through the awareness of tolerance conflicts can be resolved peacefully and wisely.

Abstract

Batik is an indigenous Indonesian culture that has been recognized by the world. Apart from being a culture, batik is also the identity of the Indonesian nation because it is a characteristic that distinguishes it from other nations. But along with the times, batik has undergone many societal changes and shifts. This article aims to discuss the shifts that occurred and the challenges of batik as the nation's identity in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. By using qualitative research methods and a literature study approach, this article shows that batik trends in the community have been mixed and even disrupted by contemporary modern trends. The conclusion obtained from this article is the need to revitalize batik as a national identity by digitizing batik to be able to maintain its existence and essence as a national identity in Indonesian society.

Abstract

While many scholarly studies have focused on the relationship between religion and morality, religion encompasses various domains, necessitating a focused examination of religious rituals and their role in human morality. Reviewing research findings and theoretical frameworks, this article explores how rituals influence moral behavior. The investigation yields varying and sometimes contradictory empirical results form various literature, resulting in inconclusive outcomes. However, theoretical models consistently suggest that rituals affect morality through multiple mechanisms: behavioral, spiritual, behavioral-spiritual, social-interactional, and anthropological. The findings indicate that the influence of rituals on moral order and behavior is not straightforward, but instead operates through complex processes, including the performance of rituals, their sacred nature, and symbolic mechanisms that shape individual adherence to societal norms. Future research should therefore pursue interconnective investigations and multi-method approaches that integrate key ritual dimensions –such as sacredness, devotion, symbolic meaning, and social context– to provide a deeper empirical understanding of the mechanisms by which religious rituals contribute to the development of human morality.
