Abstract

This study focused on analyzing the relationship between the teaching methods employed by teachers and the level of student engagement in the English classroom. The thesis used a quantitative correlational design. The population of this research included 12th-grade students from six classes at SMAN 12 Bulukumba in the 2023/2024 academic year, selected through a random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 28 12th-grade MIPA students from SMAN 12 Bulukumba. The instrument used for this research was a questionnaire. The results demonstrated a significant connection between the instructional techniques utilized by teachers and the degree of student involvement at SMAN 12 Bulukumba. Data processing using SPSS revealed that the teaching methods employed by the teachers were effective, with a mean value of 56.69. In contrast, students' participation was categorized as moderate, with a mean value of 38.76. Additionally, the examination unveiled a correlation between the teaching methodologies adopted by teachers and the level of student engagement, with a significance value (Sig) of 0.000, well below the threshold of 0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.Keywords: Teachers’ Teaching Methods, Students’ Participation in English   Classroom.

Abstract

Speaking and Literacy Camp is an activity or program designed by the first batch of AjarMi students and continued by the third batch of AjarMi team in 2024. by the third batch of AjarMi Team in 2024. This program aims to improve students' speaking and reading comprehension and foster a sense of confidence in using English. The main objective is to improve participants' speaking, literacy and language skills, as well as expand vocabulary, encourage creativity, build social skills, and improve self-confidence in a creative and fun way. The approach used in this program approach is the communication approach, which teaches English through creative and fun activities such as creative and fun activities such as spelling bee and opposite game. The expected outcome expected after participating in this activity is the ability of students to acquire and demonstrate increased basic knowledge of English, especially in speaking ability and confidence in communicating. Abstract

This research aimed to identify the factors contributing to students' difficulties in comprehending descriptive texts at SMPN 2 Galesong Utara. A descriptive qualitative research design was employed, focusing on Grade 8 students during the 2023/2024 academic year. The study sample comprised 30 students from class 8E, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through interviews. The researcher found that there were various difficulties encountered by the students in comprehending descriptive text, namely (1) understanding long sentence in the text, (2) inadequate instruction presented by teacher, (3) understanding vocabulary, and (3) house and school environment. In conclusion, there are 3 factors causing students in comprehending descriptive text at SMPN 2 Galesong Utara. Keywords: Difficulty, Comprehension, Descriptive Text
