Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia face challenges in building consumer trust and expanding market access. Halal certification and labeling serve as strategic tools to enhance competitiveness, especially in predominantly Muslim markets. This community engagement program aimed to improve the understanding of Azalea Depok MSMEs regarding the procedures, benefits, and economic impact of halal certification. Through an interactive workshop, participants were introduced to relevant regulations, certification stages, and halal standards set by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). The findings indicate that most business owners had limited knowledge of the certification process and encountered technical and administrative barriers, such as the absence of legal business documents and unfamiliarity with the SiHalal online system. Nevertheless, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm, particularly following a practical simulation session. Key success indicators of this activity included improved participant comprehension, emerging self-initiatives to begin certification, and requests for follow-up technical assistance. Overall, the program successfully increased awareness and readiness among MSME participants, emphasizing the importance of ongoing support and policy alignment. Halal certification has proven to be not only a legal obligation but also a strategic instrument for market expansion, brand differentiation, and business sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze economic factors influencing the Human Development Index (HDI) and Gini Ratio in eight ASEAN countries during 2010–2023. Using secondary data and panel data regression analysis, the findings indicate that per capita income, inflation, and labor force significantly affect HDI. Additionally, a negative relationship between HDI and Gini Ratio was identified, implying that improved human development can reduce income inequality. However, the results also highlight that economic growth does not always enhance life quality due to unequal distribution. Inclusive and redistributive policies in education, healthcare, and employment are essential to enhance HDI and reduce income disparities across the region.

Abstract

This study examines whether Waqf, Zakat and Infaq/Sadaqah actually promote sustainable economic growth in Indonesia, or whether this is merely an assumption. The 2021–2023 period was not chosen at random: this is the post-pandemic recovery period when inter-provincial disparities in the collection and distribution of Islamic social funds are most evident, and simultaneously the implementation period of the 2020–2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), which provides verifiable SDG benchmarks. Secondary data from 35 provinces were analysed using panel regression. The results were mixed. Zakat and Infaq/Sedekah were found to have a positive and significant impact on social welfare and poverty alleviation. Wakaf, however, showed the opposite trend — a negative relationship with development indicators — which points more to governance issues than to weaknesses in the instrument itself. The direct implication is that the management of Wakaf needs to be institutionally reformed, rather than merely expanded. Meanwhile, the existing distribution mechanisms for Zakat and Infaq/Sedekah need to be maintained and strengthened. This study fills an empirical gap that has been largely overlooked in the literature on Islamic social finance, namely the differences in impact across provinces at the regional level.

Abstract

This study examines how MSMEs, government investment, and digital literacy relate to digital economic growth across Indonesia, using panel data from 34 provinces between 2019 and 2024. Data were drawn from BPS and relevant government agencies. The study applies panel data regression to capture variation across both time and geography. Three model specifications were tested: Fixed Effects, Common Effects, and Random Effects. To select the best fit, two tests were performed — the Chow Test, which compared Common Effects against Fixed Effects, and the Lagrange Multiplier (LM) Test, which compared Common Effects against Random Effects. Findings from both tests identified the most appropriate specification for the data. MSMEs and government investment both show positive, statistically significant effects on digital economic growth. Digital literacy, however, does not. This suggests that simply expanding infrastructure or growing the number of MSMEs is not enough — the quality of human resources matters too, and current policy may be underweighting it.
